CAP/QM working group developed framework & outline 4. National webinars to validate outline and identify gaps 5. Conduct National Validation Study March CAP/QM working group will modify outline based on feedback from the National Validation Study 9 10 Knowledge-Based vs Competencies-Based Why introduce practice competencies? Proactively moves the PDP forward As a profession we are ahead of the curve in shifting from a knowledge-based to a competencies-based recertification program

4 Competencies Around the World Conscious Competence Model Consciously Competent Unconsciously Competent Consciously Incompetent Unconsciously Incompetent 13 How can you use competencies in practice? 15 A staff member is required to engage in a remediation program after documented errors and complaints from patients. The CNM in collaboration with the staff member is developing a remediation plan. The competencies articulate validated expectations for the profession. Therefore, the CNM can cite the competencies as goals and list performance indicators to measure whether the staff member has demonstrated competence in this area of practice. 16 4

5 An RDN is returning to work in a new area of practice. She is asking what information she should read before returning to work. The CNM and staff member identify competencies to include in her learning plan. The HR Department has asked you to revise the performance evaluations and competencies for both RDNs and DTRs within your workplace. The practice competencies provide a valid resource to support the revisions WI- FM What s in it for me? A CNM is seeking a higher-level position within the organization. She is seeking job advancement as director of patient care services. The CNM has a job interview scheduled for the next week. The CNM presents both her portfolio materials and a list of competencies specific to organizational management and foundational knowledge in clinical healthcare
