Sudden Money Institute CERTIFIED FINANCIAL TRANSITIONIST Designation Program Part One: 1.5-Day CFT Workshop October 1, 2015: 1pm-5pm, MT October 2: 9am-5pm, MT Sheraton Wild Horse Pass Resort & Spa Phoenix, AZ

Transition Expertise Matters Transitions are the primary reason advisors are hired and fired. People facing a major life change tend to seek, appreciate and value professional guidance and a proven process to follow. Referral sources need a local specialist for their clients. Become that resource. 70% of new clients hire advisors because of a major life event. 70% of widows and divorcees fire their advisors within one year. 100% of clients will go through transitions that affect their financial lives. We at the Sudden Money Institute have spent 15 years developing our materials, and thousands of hours using them with clients. We know our process and materials work, and we know that we are the only place that offers the education and coaching that leads to the ability to claim expertise in Financial Transitions Planning. The Certified Financial Transitionist Designation means you have developed a deep understanding of the human dynamics of change and transition that allows you to become your client s thinking partner as well as their financial expert.

The Upside of Clients in Transition They represent money in motion (often substantial amounts). They have complex situations. They don t know what to do with their money. They need guidance. The Downside of Clients in Transition They are in shock and their emotions are high. They distrust themselves and everyone else. They ve lost their grounding and are confused. Initial impressions are all you have to prove you are the right advisor. Connecting the Personal Side to the Technical Side Fifteen years of study and experience has taught us what neuropsychology confirms that there are two sides to our relationship with money: the technical (i.e., objective and quantifiable) side; and the personal (i.e., subjective and qualitative) side. In our work, both are equally complex and equally important. The personal side drives decisions, especially when clients are experiencing the prolonged stress of managing change. The evidencebased tools we ve created work so well because they begin on the personal side and then connect to the technical. The secret of the success of the tools is not a recognition that the personal side exists it s that we are able to provide a meaningful process that gives advisors the protocols and skills they need to help their clients connect the two sides.

The SMI Perspective Paradigm The Foundation of SMI Certified Financial Transitionist Training The perspective we are interested in is the client s perspective. What does it, the entire engagement complete with relationships, recommendations and process feel like, sound like, and look like from their perspective? From this vantage point we work towards perfect client alignment. The Core Competencies required for excellence in Financial Transitions Planning are: Trust Emotional Connection Space of Mind Confidence 7

The Four Primary Tools for Certified Financial Transitionists Each Core Competency has a set of tools and protocols developed from our view of a need and refined by experience. We focus on universal needs found regardless of net worth, sophistication, education, culture, gender or age. Our objective is to develop tools that apply to all professions. TRUST SPACE OF MIND More than trust in professional competency, the trust that creates alignment is a deep sense of being seen, heard, understood and valued. It is the I have your back feeling that begins with establishing exquisite communication. Tool Set: Communication Preference The stress response to change lowers cognitive capacity, especially decision making and memory. An organized process of sorting and prioritizing by timeline, urgency and expectations lowers stress and recovers executive functioning. Tool Sets: Decision Free Zone, Financial Triage, Managing Expectations EMOTIONAL CONNECTION CONFIDENCE When a client can explain the difference the achievement of an objective will make in their life, they are emotionally connected. When advisors clearly understand their client s emotional drivers, they become aligned and trusted. Tool Set: Purpose, Method, Outcome Protocol Clients in stress lose confidence in their ability to make good decisions. They are best served when their advisors use One Page Overviews appealing to all three of the major learning styles, moving clients from confusion to clarity. Tool Set: SMI One-Page Overview
