Welcome to the 2018 edition of our popular, annual survey on financial salaries in the local marketplace. 2 Commentary on FD s, FC s, QBE FM s and Newly Qualifieds Commerce & Industry By Nick Tout SME FD (Qualified c 5m-50m TO) This market has base salaries which range from 65k to 145k, with most earning 70-95k. Bonuses vary wildly but are largely in the 5-20% range per annum. The market is very fragmented with vacancies taken to market often driven by who the MD / CEO has a relationship with. SME FC (Qualified c 1m-50m TO) This market is competitive. Loyal candidates with stable CV s are in very high demand. Salaries range from 50-85k with supply at the 50-58k mark getting very difficult. Bonuses range from none to 10% of salary per annum, with many ad-hoc, subject to director signoff on company performance. QBE FM / FC s ( 1m to 15m TO) Often candidates can earn up to 40-45k and occasionally as high as 55-60k in a company after a loyal service. The open market though is still 33-38k, which can be challenging. Worth thinking about qualifying even after gaining a lot of experience, to enter the FC market above. Newly Qualifieds from Small Practices or SME s Occasionally good talent comes to market looking at C&I at 30-33k, but this is more usually 35k, with 40k often paid to entice a move. Corporate Newly Qualifieds and Top 4 ACA s A premium section of the market again this year. Highly personable qualifieds in this bracket have a myriad of choice. Organisations need a combination of an attractive job (thinking of your interview sales pitch is critical) competitive salary / benefits and a strong career offering to entice. Salaries range from 45-52k. The commerce division of exactitude uses a sophisticated selection of search techniques to source candidates across all these sectors. 3 Practice & Taxation By Chris Castle Audit Strong demand for qualified audit staff. National firms leading recruitment drive, offering significant salary rises for candidates from smaller firms. Accounting High demand and low supply across part and qualified staff. Salaries moving above inflation as firms compete to attract quality. Cloud based accounting experience very sought after. Outsourcing Significant jump in demand as many firms scale their offering. Attractive salary packages being paid as firms compete with industry for talent. Strong market demand for staff at all levels. Low supply, resulting in upward pressure on salaries. Corporate Tax Consistent demand, combined with challenging supply. An extremely candidate driven market where quality individuals have a lot of choice about who to work for. Personal Tax Both compliance and advisory skills in demand as independent and large firms compete for the available pool of staff. Upwards pressure on salaries when firms come to market. Corporate Finance This sector offers premium rate salaries due to the consultative and sales skill set required to complement technical ability. Partner Recruitment Positive opportunities at partner / director level as firms look to either grow or think about succession planning.
