2 HOW? Venturn are always on the look-out for top level graduates who are highly qualified and motivated with a keen desire to develop their careers and perform in the maritime industry. The Young Professionals who meet the tough selection criteria take on our unique and demanding VYP Training Programme, with a view to making the transition from a talented starter to a fully-fledged professional. The VYP s are placed within wide-ranging maritime companies and are tasked with challenging project work. Throughout their projects they are supported by a company supervisor and coached by a member of the Venturn team. The combination of practical and theoretical learning produces effective results and ensures projects are completed successfully and efficiently. We want our Young Professionals to start their careers with leading and inspiring maritime organisations in the Netherlands and abroad. We work with Shipping Lines, Port Authorities, Terminals, Rescue Organisations, and Offshore and Logistics Service Providers amongst others. TIMELINE TOM PIJL VYP GRADUATE 2013 Qualified in Industrial Management and Engineering (Technische Bedrijfskunde) JUN14 Commenced the VYP Programme Project 1: Verkeersonderneming (Project Team Member) DEC14 Project 2: Thyssenkrupp Veerhaven (Jr. Consultant) FEB15 Project 3: Matchback Systems (Onboarding Sales Manager) JUL15 Project 4: APM Terminals (Project Leader Technical Services) MAR16 Graduated from VYP Programme as an independent Project Manager at Den Hartogh Logistics Due to the wide range of projects, I gained a solid understanding of the maritime sector in a short space of time.

3 Projects The Venturn Young Professionals get involved in many different types of projects. Be inspired by a few examples! Our Young Professionals work on a project basis in areas such as optimisation and improvement. The VYP s can develop strategies, manage projects and add value by providing smart and innovative solutions. STRATEGY DEVELOPMENT IN THE SALVAGE INDUSTRY With a team of the CEO, CFO and SMEs (Subject Matter Experts) this project generated strategy innovation in the salvage sector. An intelligent combination of commercial details, financial reports and operational logs resulted in a new strategy proposal. PROCESS OPTIMISATION FOR A SHIPPING COMPANY Rapid growth and unrivalled success in turnover in recent years led to a lack of attention to processes and competency management in this organisation. Thorough analysis of the processes, together with assistance from in-house Project Managers meant the team could produce a detailed process description with a new optimised process. CAPACITY AND WORKLOAD ANALYSIS FOR AN INLAND SHIPPING COMPANY Expanding activities and the workload of a push-barge service appeared to stretch the capacity of the barge and the crew beyond their limits. Careful analysis generated improved work processes and an optimised structure of the teams. Resulting in no need to employ more crew or purchase additional barges. ASSISTANT TO DIRECTOR HR AT A LEADING SHIPPING & LOGISTICS COMPANY Pursuant to the acquisition of another company, there was a need to help the new employees to integrate and buy into the company values and work ethos. This strategic initiative required the YP to work closely with the Director HR for running several onboarding workshops and seminars for all staff in order to ensure a (post-merger) seamless and effective integration. The traditionally conservative maritime sector is in full motion. I explore this dynamic sector through different projects with much satisfaction. My current project involves me in one of the largest global challenges a carbon neutral economy and society within 30 years and the advancement of the Port of Rotterdam towards the place where energy transition is shaped.
