1 POSITION DESCRIPTION TITLE: Supervisor, Automotive Shop CATEGORY: Classified FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt GRADE: F JOB SUMMARY: Supervise and manage the daily activities of all vehicle repair, maintenance, and operations for the District. Ensure that El Paso Community College (EPCC) vehicle fleet receives the proper maintenance and are available for safe use by EPCC personnel. Oversee daily operations to include: fleet loaner program, preventive maintenance, inventory and parts control, and procurement of supplies. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Supervise the daily activities of the Physical Plant automotive shop and the assigned personnel, including training, performance appraisal, coaching and professional development. 2. Coordinate the activities of the automotive shop personnel to ensure productive and timely repair and maintenance of the EPCC vehicles; maintain shop clean and organized; ensure equipment is operational and safe to use. 3. Implement and improve operational department effectiveness; keep accurate records of maintenance intervals on vehicles and ensure that vehicles are brought in for needed maintenance; plan and perform scheduled preventive vehicle maintenance and develop appropriate ad-hoc reports. 4. Track fleet vehicle mileage, based upon Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) requirements; determine vehicles in need of replacement; make recommendations for the replacement of vehicles. 5. Ensure that all EPCC vehicles have current inspection, insurance, and registration documents. 6. Manage daily operation of fleet loaner program; ensure vehicles are fueled, mechanically sound, free of damage, clean and ready for use by district personnel; make sure that vehicles are returned in the same condition that they were when they were loaned out; create and maintain records of vehicle use and damage and ensure that drivers are aware of college policy in regards to vehicle use. 7. Provide cost estimates for repair of both mechanical and collision repairs. Initiate, track, and coordinate purchase orders to complete repairs. YEARLY PERCENT OF TIME 25% 20% 15 % 5% 8. 2 ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: Associate s Degree or equivalent. EPERIENCE: Four (4) years of related experience. CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES: Valid Driver s License and be insurable by the district s auto liability insurance carrier. SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 1. Skills/Abilities: Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills; Ability to interact with individuals at all levels of the institution, vendors, service providers and general public; Ability to create or gather cost estimates for both mechanical or collision repairs; Excellent customer service skills; Experience managing and supervising personnel; Ability to work in a diverse environment and be sensitive to issues of diversity and inclusion. 2. Equipment Used: Computer generated maintenance management systems and Automotive diagnostic equipment; personal computer, fax, telephone, copier, and other equipment associated with an office environment. 3. Software Used: A variety of word-processing, spreadsheet, database, , and presentation software and computerized maintenance management system software to track vehicle maintenance.
