Established in 1980, our collection includes the UNESCO World Heritage listed Hyde Park Barracks, The Mint, Australia s oldest surviving government building through to the twentieth century Rose Seidler House, which marks the arrival of the modernist movement to Australia. The collection is unlike other museums in that the significance of each is in the whole, and not just in the parts. The awareness of place frames each narrative. Our audiences are local, regional, national and international. Sydney Living Museums is a state cultural institution, reporting to the Minister for the Arts. The Heritage & Collections Division brings together a team of professionally and technically specialised capabilities which focuses on the conservation, preservation and presentation of the organisation s collections, sites, buildings and gardens. The activities of the Heritage & Collections Division include conservation management planning, collections and access, conservation, capital works and maintenance, endangered houses projects, and landscaping. Primary purpose of the role Contribute to the management of the Hyde Park Barracks archaeology and social history collections according to professional museum standards and NSW regulatory requirements, including all aspects of collection management, documentation and cataloguing, processing, access, storage, movement and transport of objects. Key accountabilities Provide full registration and documentation support for the Hyde Park Barracks to manage and catalogue of the Hyde Park Barracks Museum archaeological and social history collection. 1

2 Perform core registration tasks to ensure correct identification, dimensions, condition, location, storage, access, and identification photography are recorded. Maintain Hyde Park Barracks Museums archaeology and social history object records within the collection management system (CMS) to ensure catalogue information is recorded accurately. Undertake data clean-up and maintenance of controlled archaeology vocabularies within the system to uphold data integrity, and as a priority, create complete records with cataloguing data with images for objects included in Manage the listing, handling and labelling of objects selected for the to something proper collection management processes are followed. Facilitate professional photography of objects selected for the and archive object images to the Image Management Storage System (IMSS) and CMS to assist with creation of publically accessible records on-line. Participate in the planning and dismantling of current collection storage, displays and associated infrastructure to ensure effective risk management procedures are in place. Establish location hierarchies for new storage areas, assisting with the physical relocation of collection objects to new locations ensuring all movements are accurately documented with in the CMS. Key challenges Ensuring adherence to a high level of collection management practice and procedures and a culture of optimal external and internal customer service. Working collaboratively and effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders within the Hyde Park Barracks Project team to develop productive working relationships as to achieve deadlines and intended outcomes. Maintaining current knowledge of conservation, handling, storage and transportation practices to ensure Sydney Living Museums are following correct and current procedures. Assist with the delivery of new exhibitions for the Hyde Park Barracks through planning, exhibition preparation, movement, transportation and installation of objects and props. Head of Strategic Projects Receive guidance and direction in relation to the development of Museum Renewal project planning, scheduling and implementation. Hyde Park Barracks project Team Provide updates on projects, issues and priorities as required. Liaise with and provide updates as required. Staff across the agency Develop and maintain collaborative working relationships to facilitate the implementation of the project. 4 Essential requirements Extensive knowledge and experience working in a museum environment with demonstrated practice in collection management and documentation, including exhibition development and management processes. Experience working with collections management databases such as Vernon and other software applications used to maintain and update collection information. Experience and knowledge of appropriate techniques/procedures for handling, display, transportation and storage of museum objects at a professional museum level including understanding of risk management and disaster preparedness. Ability to manage lifting, carrying, standing, kneeling and moving around heritage sites, both internal and external environments is a genuine occupational requirement. Current NSW driver s licence.
