1 JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Reporting to: Direct Reports: Salary: Status: Assistant Cinema Manager, Belmont Head of Cinema Operations, Belmont Duty Managers, Front of House Assistants per annum Full time; permanent contract Centre for the Moving Image The Centre for the Moving Image (CMI) is a national organisation with bases in Edinburgh and Aberdeen. It is aiming to use film in all its guises to transform people s lives through the watching, making and understanding of film. The CMI currently incorporates Scotland s leading independent cinema, Filmhouse, the world s longest continually running film festival, Edinburgh International Film Festival, the Filmhouse Café Bar, and Belmont Filmhouse in Aberdeen. The CMI is a founding member of Scottish Film Limited (along with Dundee Contemporary Arts, Eden Court and Glasgow Film), delivering Film Hub Scotland and the Scottish Film Education Programme, and is working in partnership with Hopscotch and Digicult in delivering the Scottish Film Talent Network. Purpose of role To support the Head Of Cinema Operations, Belmont in all operational aspects of the running of Belmont Filmhouse, including management of the Duty Management team and FOH staff, the maintenance of the fabric of the building, the dealing with of clients and contractors, the management of payroll and invoicing, the delivery of projection and handling of print traffic and all customer related Front of House services at Belmont Filmhouse. The nature of this role means that it is front facing, and you will represent the Belmont Filmhouse and CMI with customers, partner organisations, funders and other stakeholders. Each member of staff has an individual and collective responsibility to promote the development of the wider ambitions of the Centre for the Moving Image. Responsibilities Reporting to the Head of Cinema Operations, Belmont and working with them and colleagues across the CMI:

To support and deputise for the Head of Cinema Operations in every aspect of the business when Head Of Cinema Operations is on holiday, absent or and be available as a point of contact for clients, staff and wider Filmhouse colleagues when the Head Of Cinema Operations is unavailable 2. To ensure Belmont Filmhouse provides the highest levels of customer care possible, in line with the stated aims and values of the CMI, including accessibility, safety, security and respect. 3. To assist the Head of Cinema Operations in the successful managing of financial reporting of Belmont Filmhouse and payroll. 4. To ensure that the building is kept to the highest standards of repair and appearance, in particular all front of house and public areas. 5. To ensure that the proper standards of display and merchandising are maintained throughout the building, liaising with Marketing where necessary. 6. To ensure all cash handling and security procedures are followed on site, and the maintaining accurate records of all income and expenditure 7. To ensure recruitment, induction, support, training and development of staff, and conduct regular reviews and appraisals of staff team 8. To run Duty Management shifts and rota appropriately to ensure the completion of all duties within Duty Management shifts. 9. To ensure that staff rotas are prepared and followed in order to ensure that the appropriate staff levels are maintained at all times 10. To ensure the maintain good operation of Belmont Filmhouse's till systems and customers service tools, maintaining good levels staff training. 11. To effectively manage the Duty Management team and to delegate individual tasks throughout the Duty Management team, including delivery of projection, stock management and staff management 12. To ensure the efficient and compliant delivery of all Human Resources related activities (Payroll, HR Administration, Managing Absences, and Performance Management) 13. To ensure standards of Building Maintenance & Premises Security 14. To ensure that all cash handling and security procedures are followed, and maintain accurate records of all income and expenditure 15. To ensure compliance with all relevant Health & Safety legislation. 16. To ensure that emergency evacuation procedures are in place and responded to appropriately

3 17. To be a point of contact for event management and enquiries. 18. To undertake any other duties as may be reasonably required by the Head of Cinema Operations General Responsibilities 18. Communicate effectively with colleagues and departments across the Belmont Filmhouse and CMI to share information, attend meetings, achieve deadlines and promote a positive working environment. 19. It is the responsibility of all staff to minimise the CMI s environmental impact wherever possible and adhere to the company s Environmental Policy. This will include: o recycling; o switching off lights, computers, monitors and equipment when not in use; o helping to reduce paper waste by minimising printing/copying and reducing water usage; o reporting faults and heating/cooling concerns promptly; and o minimising carbon footprint when travelling. 2. Where the role includes the ordering and use of supplies or equipment the post holder will consider the environmental impact of purchases. Person Specification Skills & Experience Essential

4 o Demonstrable experience of running or working at management level within a full time public venue preferably a cinema, arts centre or theatre. o Demonstrable understanding of and commitment to providing the best possible customer service o Demonstrable experience of managing diverse teams in delivering high quality customer service o Demonstrable experience of dealing with the general public on a daily basis, and problem solving within that environment. o Demonstrable excellent inter-personal skills with customers and colleagues o Demonstrable experience of motivating staff through a period of change o High level of computer literacy familiarity with word processing, spread sheet and database packages and computerised box office systems. o Experience of successfully managing people. o Demonstrable understanding of, and commitment to, equal opportunities practice. o Demonstrable understanding of, and commitment to, team building and staff development. o Demonstrable ability to work under own initiative with little supervision Desirable o Experience of working in a busy retailing operation, including knowledge of stock control, product promotion and pricing strategies. o A personal licence holder o A current first aid qualification. o An interest in and enthusiasm for cinema from across the world. o Understanding of food hygiene HACCP practices. o Ability to work independently and to tight deadlines o Attention to detail and extremely well organised o Experience of coordinating and managing multi-faceted projects o Project management and project administration skills o Excellent written English o The post needs a flexible approach to working hours throughout the year, and due to the nature of this post it would require the successful candidate to live within easy commuting distance of Belmont to be effective Competencies Managing Work Quickly determines tasks and resources Schedules work Develops time lines Co-ordinates resources Ensure effective completion of work through use of own and others time Change Management Challenges assumptions Recognises organisational opportunities
