1 STUB Programmer/ Publicist Compensation: Stipend Position Time Requirement: hours per week $5,000/year (approx.) Scheduling is flexible Job Description Purpose of STUB To plan and implement a broad range of campus social programs and activities that reflects Christian values and builds community though campus traditions and contemporary community issues. - ASSP Constitution Bylaw Article V, Section 3 Who is STUB? STUB is made up of 8 current undergraduate students (6 Event Programmers, 1 Publicist, and 1 Director). STUB is supervised by the STUB Executive Director position and overseen by the ASSP Vice President of Campus Activities (VPCA) and the Campus Program Coordinator in the office of Student Programs as STUB advisor. What does STUB do? STUB plans and hosts several campus- wide events that carry out their purpose and mission throughout the academic year. STUB is responsible for these events from beginning to end from conception and proposal to execution and assessment. In the past, some of these events have included Big Party and Involve- O- Rama, Tradition, Talent Show, and HallowScream. STUB Position Descriptions The STUB Executive Director holds the primary responsibility of running and directing the Student Union Board. In addition, s/he oversees all office operations including the management of the STUB budgets. Responsibilities of the Director include but are not limited to: planning and facilitating STUB training, overseeing and managing the overall STUB event calendar, planning and facilitating staff meetings, weekly one on ones with programmers, meeting weekly with STUB advisor, event chair meetings, STUB development, maintaining a seat on the Student Leadership Development Committee, and event assessment. The STUB Publicist primarily coordinates and/or designs all of the various forms of publicity and programs for all STUB events. This can include social media, banners, fliers, ticket design, event favors, etc. In addition the publicist is charged with taking pictures throughout the year to document STUB events and STUB life. Secondary roles include supporting STUB Programmers in planning and implementing events. STUB Event Programmers are responsible for brainstorming, planning, and coordinating all STUB events throughout the year. Each STUB programmer will have the opportunity to chair one or multiple events, serving as lead to the entire STUB team in planning and implementing the program. Programmers should be skilled in the areas of organization, teamwork, project management, time management, design, and conflict resolution. Programmers are asked to set personal goals and to work on them throughout the course of the year.

2 Essential Responsibilities 1. Be present at all STUB events (set- up and tear- down), attend weekly staff meetings, weekly one- on- ones, event chair meetings, all workdays prior to events, both fall and winter training/retreats, and Leadership Conference and Celebration. In addition, there may be STUB development opportunities scheduled throughout the year that you are expected to participate in (approx. 1-2 per quarter). 2. Work collaboratively with other STUB members in designing, developing, and implementing events for the SPU community. 3. Work ten hours per week in the STUB office. Some weeks, such as event weeks, will require more time. Expect at least one Saturday workday for each event, particularly larger events. 4. Act as primary coordinator for at least two events. Responsibly manage event budgets for those events and effectively lead the STUB team in the design, development, and implementation of these events. 5. Communicate regularly with all STUB members and STUB advisor. 6. Maintain a minimum quarterly 2.5 GPA. 7. Abide by all SPU lifestyle expectations. See student handbook for more details. Qualifications Excellent organizational, problem solving and project management skills. Detail- oriented. Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment, while using discretion in decision making and sound judgment in the analysis of challenging situations. Working sense and practice of conflict resolution. Administrative skills, including budget management and use of Microsoft Outlook. Strong interpersonal skills, including strong verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to lift at least 20 lbs and stand/walk for several hours at a time. Publicist applicants should have experience in Adobe Design Suite, or an equivalent. STUB Application Process 1. In addition please answer, in a separate document, the supplemental application questions at the end of this document. For assistance in writing your resume and cover letter, please go to the Career Development Center (2 nd Floor SUB). 3. Ask two people to complete a reference for you. These should be completed by April 12. One should be a faculty, staff or supervisor who knows you well who provides a written letter of reference in a sealed envelope. The other should be a PA, SMC or other student leader who knows you well, and completes an online reference at References Complete the application and submit all documents to the ASSP office by April Sign up for an interview time outside of Whitney Broetje s office (SUB 204) by April Get a better idea of what STUB does (and get seen by the selection committee!) by helping out at a STUB event.
