Your role The Directorate General Information Systems (DG/IS) provides the information and communication systems of the ECB and carries out development and support activities needed for the tasks of the Eurosystem/European System of Central Banks (ESCB). Within DG/IS, the Infrastructure and Operations Division is responsible for (i) the operation and support of ECB/ESCB systems and applications in line with the agreed service levels; and (ii) the infrastructure development portfolio. The Division is organised into four sections: the Data Centre Section, the Data and Networks Section, the Systems Section and the Infrastructure Development Section. The successful candidate will join the Data Centre Section s network operations team, which is primarily responsible for: network operations, including monitoring, identifying issues, and performing preventive or remedial maintenance; the deployment, configuration and support of development, test, pre-production and production systems and environments; evaluating and executing changes and service requests in line with operating procedures, while

2 maintaining agreed service levels and meeting deadlines; maintaining accurate and up-to-date technical documentation, configuration management, inventory and troubleshooting documentation related to business and technical services; planning, preparing and documenting maintenance activities (such as network firmware and software upgrades); supporting the design and preparation of recovery and contingency exercises to ensure system recovery in accordance with the predefined plans and documentation; The successful applicant will be entrusted with the following main tasks: contributing to the maintenance and further development of technical services; providing second/third-level support for assigned technical services, including the use of diagnostic tools to identify and monitor any need for preventive or remedial maintenance; investigating, diagnosing and resolving incidents and problems escalated by other support lines; actively participating in the technical management of external service providers; overseeing the provider of the ECB s European WAN services; supervising the change process and evaluating changes suggested by the provider; verifying the provided services against the service level agreement and compiling quarterly reports for the participating national banks; supporting services development processes by performing technical transitions; acting as a single point of contact for project and engineering teams; ensuring that resource requirements are understood and communicated in a timely manner to management; planning, preparing and executing technical transition tests; contributing to IT projects which have an impact on infrastructure technical services (e.g. analysis, verification of concepts, development, testing, maintenance, release and documentation);

3 developing and maintaining accurate and up-to-date technical documentation and procedures for technical services; supporting colleagues within and outside the Data Centre Section through the provision of IT expertise. The holder of this position is expected to perform on-call duties. Qualifications, experience and skills Applicants must have the following knowledge and competencies: a bachelor s degree in a relevant field or six years of experience as either a network engineer in the design, building and operation of networks or as an IT engineer; experience in operating in mission-critical IT infrastructure environments, e.g. in financial services, IT hosting or the defence industry; experience in the coordination, supervision and management of external service providers; experience in vendor management; a good understanding of and experience with ITIL processes, particularly change, incident and problem management; knowledge and experience in at least one of the following fields; network technologies, such as L2/L3 switches, network security devices (firewalls, load balancers, network access control and application delivery controllers) and DMZ infrastructure; current and common network protocols for LAN and WAN services; Windows system administration and design; The following would be an asset: experience with Cisco switching/routing, firewalls and load balancers; experience in working with external service providers; experience in a multicultural organisation; experience in drafting documents for both decision-makers and technical audiences;

4 advanced command of English; intermediate knowledge of at least one other official language of the EU; a working knowledge of MS Office, such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint. To enable the Data Centre Section to maintain its business continuity capability, the successful applicant will participate in an on-call regime and will occasionally be expected to perform work during
