2 Under-represented among business owners Businesses start small, grow slowly, less few employees, less capitalised, less export readiness, mostly working in informal sector Limited access to information, finance, technologies, market tools, skills, knowledge, business development services, government facilitations and qualified labour Lack of analysis of the conditions hindering or favouring the emergence of women entrepreneurs Lack of sex disaggregated enterprise data 2

3 NB: The informal enterprises in Egypt constitute 82% of total number of economic units and the informally employed 40% of the total labour force (MOAWAD S. (2009). The informal economy as an engine for poverty reduction and development in Egypt) 3

4 Provide technical and training support to women entrepreneurs Increase businesswomen awareness about the addedvalue of business associations (in particular at local level) Improve participation of women in decision making bodies and business associations Improve economic performance of women in business 4

6 Conduct surveys/reports on women employability and entrepreneurship, Offer necessary technical support to the businesswomen (owners and/or top management), to be able to increase their professional capacity Conduct capacity building program for staff, relevant stakeholders and women business leaders members of the FEI and of other business associations as required and needed Training activities to support women entrepreneurship Follow up & support CSR Centre on women-related business activities Promote the development of women firm owners network Represent businesswomen in the steering committee of implementation agreements such as with the AWAD Represent businesswomen in other ILO gender committees /programs Represent business women with other relevant international organizations and donors 6

Etc) Developed and distributed questionnaires to access why women can t reach key positions at work and challenges facing women in business. Reviewing several studies addressing challenges facing women whether at grassroots or and business level. Working with ILO on the WED assessment report Preparing for Vocational training for workers 8

9 Created network of 50 women in business to discuss challenges and needs for capacity building (face book group) The FEI/ILO organized a very successful Women Support Conference (Nov. 2014) 200 participants explored the available services as well as discussed major challenges. Round table workshop with more than 15 NGOs discussed the challenges facing women in business. Engaging with women entrepreneurs associations and networks Including women in public-private sector policy dialogue and influence on outcomes 9

10 Mapping key financial institutions (commercial banks, loan guarantees, seed/ venture capital, donors.. etc) Encouraging them to increase participation of women entrepreneurs among their clients Bridging gaps between Financial Institutions and women led businesses Financial Literacy Training for women led businesses Advocating for Special funds targeting women entrepreneurs 10

11 Developing a website to build linkages, access to information, data base and open new markets Compiling data base of Businesswomen in chambers, in NGOs, Service providers, Donors/Stakeholders and Media Encouraging women led businesses to apply the latest technology in production and operations Efforts to improve women s access to ICTs and technology for business development and productivity improvements 11

12 Mapping a wide range of BDS services (entrepreneurship/ business management training, mentoring, coaching, consultancy, incubation, etc.) Promoting BDS providers to attract women clients Guiding women les business to appropriate BDS providers Assessing relevance and responsiveness of generic BDS service providers to the needs of women entrepreneurs 12
