13 TEN STEPS To A Damn Good Resume By Yana Parker 1. Choose a Job Target: A Career/Job Objective highlights your strengths in 2 sentences or less and includes the Job Title. 2. Find Out what skills, knowledge, and experience are needed: The Job Description tells you everything you need to know! 3. Make a list of your 3 or 4 strongest skills or abilities or knowledge that make you a good candidate for the job. 4. For each key Skill, think of several accomplishments from your past work experiences that illustrate that skill. 5. Describe each accomplishment in simple, powerful, action statements that emphasize the results that benefited your employer. 6. Make a list of the primary jobs you ve held, in chronological order. Include any unpaid/volunteer work that fills a gap or shows skills for the job. 7. Make a list of your training and education that are related to the job you want. 8. Choose a resume format that fits the situation. Chronological resumes work best if you have related work experience without any gaps in employment. Functional Resumes work best if you are changing careers, have limited related work experience or new education. Can t decide? You can always combine the 2 formats. 9. Arrange your action statements according to the format of your choice. 10. Summarize your key point at or near the top of your resume.
