3 Job Description: Managing Director, Evolve Learning Group Role purpose: The Managing Director will provide outstanding commercial and people leadership across Evolve Learning Group, positioning the organisation as a leading training provider for businesses, whilst delivering real and tangible income and profit growth in line with targets and expectations set by the college group. The Managing Director will develop and implement an optimised sales strategy that delivers commercial growth and success whilst building significant and mutually beneficial high value relationships with leading employers. The Managing Director will provide outstanding and motivational leadership across the team to drive high performance and professional practice. In addition, the Managing Director will provide strategic leadership to the college s commercial international education and training developments. Commercial and reputational success will be delivered in line with the college group s values of Excellence, Ambition, Focus, Accountability, Inclusion and Integrity. Reporting To: - Chief Executive, West London College Direct Reports: - Operations Manager - Head of Sales and Client Engagement - International Operations Manager Key Accountabilities: The Managing Director will be accountable for: The delivery of commercial growth and success Building and securing brand recognition in the training market place Building and maintaining high value customer relationships with employers Ensuring the organisational and operational effectiveness of Evolve Learning Group The overall success of the college group s international education and training offer Driving the high performance of the staff team. Commercial Growth: Develop and implement an optimised sales strategy to deliver sales and profit growth in line with agreed targets. Develop high impact sales and marketing strategies to achieve the commercial ambitions of the organisation and the wider college group. 4 Ensure clear strategies are in place to deliver the growth targets within the sales strategy. Work with relevant leaders and managers across the college group to ensure that commercial and business opportunities are responded to and secured. Ensure the Evolve Learning Group offer is well communicated in the market place and the organisation is well positioned to compete. Develop and leverage the unique selling points of the constituent parts of the college group to establish a training offering that is highly competitive. Identify and lead on tendering and bidding opportunities ensuring the organisation is well positioned to compete and succeed. Ensure the implementation of a plan to drive up revenues from international education and training opportunities, securing new business, student enrolments and international contracts. Building and securing brand recognition: Develop and implement a brand building strategy that positions Evolve Learning Group as a national provider of apprenticeships and other work-based learning solutions for businesses. Ensure Evolve Learning Group, and when relevant, the wider college group, is present and represented at key stakeholder events in order to raise brand profile and awareness. Develop brand awareness by positioning Evolve Learning Group, and when relevant, the wider college group, as a leader in the field through research, publications and promotional offerings. Identify key commercial development opportunities for Evolve Learning Group, and where relevant the wider college group, to exploit by positioning the organisation as a responsive partner that delivers. Ensure the college group is appropriately positioned to compete for international students, international contracts and other relevant opportunities. High Value Customer Relationships: Develop and implement employer and customer engagement approaches that draw out the uniqueness of the group in order to compete successfully in the market place. Proactively build and manage employer partnerships, ensuring relationships are built on effective customer relationship strategies. Ensure the highest levels of employer service and support, building a reputation of excellence across the group s network of employers. Ensure an effective system of account management is in place which delivers a highly responsive service to customers. In line with agreed commercial and sales targets, build a target list of new employers, building new and commercially successful relationships. Establish and maintain international and overseas relationships in order to deliver growth and success in the international operation. Ensure all queries, issues and complaints are responded to effectively, ensuring an outcome the employer is satisfied with and the reputation of the group is maintained. 5 Organisational and Operational Effectiveness: Ensure business practices, processes and procedures are highly responsive, timely and flexible. Ensure data and information on sales, customer contact and engagement, and market trends is used to inform business development activities. Stay connected with local and sub-regional developments and represent the college at key events. Ensure that training secured and/or delivered is offered in line with funding requirements and ensure that employers and customers are appropriately informed about funding rules and regulations. Provide regular reports on the performance of business development activities to the group executive. Ensure effective liaison and partnerships with delivery units in other parts of the group to provide employers and customers with a seamless training experience. Driving High Performance: Develop and implement a high performance culture across the business development and international teams where targets are shared and owned. Ensure effective performance management arrangements are in place which motivate staff towards performance excellence. Ensure effective communications across the business development and international teams where targets, goals and objectives are fully understood and responded to by all team members. Ensure team members consistently provide exceptional levels of service and support to employers, customers and trainees. 6 Person Specification: Managing Director, Evolve Learning Group Skills & Experience Essential: Experience of leading successful business development activities that have a tangible and positive impact on income and profit growth. Experience of working in a senior commercial development and sales role. Experience of leading a team of commercial sales and business development professionals towards the achievement of performance targets. Experience of building successful employer relationships which deliver sales targets. Experience of developing and growing business within a training environment which offers apprenticeships and other work-based learning products. Experience of initiating, pursuing and successfully converting B2B sales opportunities. Experience of creating sales and marketing strategies that result in business growth. Effective written communication skills and the ability to write commercial reports, client proposals, business plans and business strategies. Experience of working in a management position with direct responsibility for people, budgets and commercial targets. Strong presentational skills and the ability to deliver pitches to customers. An articulate and effective communicator with the skills to engage stakeholders. Desirable: Experience of winning apprenticeship levy business. Bid/tender writing skills. Experience of working with LEPs, employer groups and other sub-regional economic and employment related organisations. Experience of working within the international education and training space. Teaching qualification and experience of teaching/assessing. Qualifications Essential: A professional qualification at degree level or equivalent. GCSE Maths and English, grades A*-C Desirable: Professional sales or marketing qualifications at an appropriate level. Other Requirements (all essential) The ability to sell, influence, persuade and negotiate. The ability to build and maintain enduring professional relationships. Highly engaging and personable with the ability to network successfully. Strong leadership with the credibility to represent an organisation. Commercially astute with the ability to spot and secure profitable opportunities. Flexible in approach and the ability to adopt work patterns that meet customer needs. Able to travel for work. The Apprenticeship Levy: an untapped opportunity The government has made a commitment to create 3m new Apprenticeships by The Apprenticeship Levy was expected to raise around 3bn a year in revenues to fund these. The Evolve Learning Group has conducted research on how employers are viewing the Apprenticeship Levy six months on from it being introduced. In England, control of apprenticeship funding will be put in the hands of employers through the Digital Apprenticeship Service. The levy will be charged at a rate of 0.5% of an employer s paybill.
