If awarded, your specialist will go over this document with you and any changes you d like to make to ensure all activities and requirements are allowable, and all necessary sections are complete. Please indicate in your host site application if you anticipate needing to make significant changes. No Yes Goals (position s goals in relation to the project as a whole, as well as the impact the project will have in the community) Example of affiliate-specific goal (please ensure your position s goals are specific to your host site): Develop, document and implement a plan to increase outreach into our service area as well as expand the involvement of the faith community as both a funding source and a volunteer labor source for our new construction and repair programs. Member will help to increase our outreach by building our branding and messaging platforms to the community as well as increasing our coverage in the local media and community outreach publications. Within the faith community, we have recently started working with 20 churches from the Catholic Diocese to form a Catholic Coalition that has the potential to engage over 3,000 parishioners with Habitat OC. We would like to build on the growing success of this and form coalitions with additional faith groups within our community (i.e. Lutheran, Presbyterian, regional) in hopes of establishing partnerships that will lead to community support, program family applicants, funding opportunities and volunteers. Outputs: Measurable targets must be included and should be targeted PER MEMBER. Please use the shared outputs below, inserting 0 if not applicable. $20,000 cash and in-kind resources will be raised utilizing systems and opportunities identified by VISTA member (includes resources raised for home building efforts, as well as ReStores) o $10,000 cash resources o $10,000 in-kind resources 60 individuals will collaborate with VISTA member on projects related to this position. (Stakeholders, volunteers, community members, staff, etc.) 1 systems, processes, and/or tools created or enhanced by VISTA member that will increase capacity at the affiliate 1 additional projects that do not fall into one of the categories above created or enhanced by VISTA member that will increase capacity at the affiliate Objective One (First Quarter) EXPLORATION: Research the programs, policies and procedures, leadership and resources that are currently in place related to Habitat OC s marketing / communication plas as well as resource development from faith communities to

2 identify best practices from other programs. Document research and communicate findings to the project sponsor and gain further direction to move forward with developming a resource development strategy. 1. Research current branding and messaging practices used by the affiliate and explore if they are providing the impact within the community that Habitat OC would like to see. With direction from staff/board, this may also include outreach to specific groups and communities to gather feedback. 2. Research successful Habitat Young Professional (HYP) programs and use them as a template to develop a HYP Fundraising Program at Habitat OC. Objective Two (Second Quarter) DEVELOPMENT Based on the information gathered, develop a marketing / communications strategy that will address the needs of the host site to expand outreach into the communities for which we are currently building or have plans to build in the next 2 years. In addition, member will develop a resource development strategy that will address the needs of the host site to expand involvement with faith communities. These strategies may include improved branding and messaging recognition, increased press release placement in local publications, or improved donor / volunteer engagement plans, but will be guided by the research completed in the exploration phase. 1. Develop and document a branding and messaging plan to include but not limited to direct mail, advertising, printed collateral and general messaging from the affiliate. Plan should include the development of both presentation materials and elevator speeches that may be used by staff, board members and volunteers to help recruit program family applicants, donors and volunteers. 2. Develop a list of targeted media / community publications and establish viable contacts within those publications with a goal of maximum press release ratio. 3. With direction from staff, assist with interviewing current program families, donors and volunteers then write those great stories that may ve used in marketing materials and collateral. 4. Develop and document a faith community outreach plan, including targeting specific confregations. Plan should include creation of specific steps to involve the congregations as both donors and volunteers with Habitat OC. Objective Three (Third Quarter) IMPLEMENTATION AND REVIEW -Implement the new marketing / communications strategy as well as the new resource development strategy when working with the faith community. Assist the site in testing and evaluating the various parts of both strategies and make revisions as needed in order to ensure success. 1. Implement branding and messaging plan. Document open rates / donations garnered from direct mail, advertising, printed collateral and general marketing collateral. 2. Establish viable contacts with media and community publications with a goal of maximum press release placed rates. 3. Implement the faith community outreach plan. Create and document all development resources, including marketing materials, presentation format, and timelines that are focused on the faith community. 4. Recruit and train volunteer to implement a HYP Program at Habitat OC. * Note that while VISTAs cannot regularly build on the construction site, the VISTA member may have the opportunity to

3 engage in active building no more than one time per month to serve alongside donors the member may have helped to develop, as well as to help inform donor engagment and the overall resource development strategy. Objective Four (Fourth Quarter) SUSTAINABILITY Ensure that the marketing / communications strategy for branding, messaging and media outreach as well as the resource development strategy when working with the faith community are both sustainable and will continue at the host site after the completion of the VISTA term by documenting the plan and training staff / volunteers. 1. Review plan with the Director of Communications that will be implemented by communications interns to assist with continued production of marketing / communications materials to include, but not limited to, direct mail, advertising, printed collateral and press releases. 2. Recruit volunteer groups to participate in Faith Build Days on both the new and home repair build sites. Develop and document resources for Faith Outreach to include congregation engagement evaluations that will allow staff and volunteer to determine ongoing effectiveness of the outreach. 3. Evaluate resources garnered by branding and messaging changes to determine if new outreach is producing an increase in resources such as donors and volunteers. Required Meetings, Trainings and Events: Minimum expectations are outlined below, with the understanding that further trainings may be required as determined by HFHI, CNCS or the Host Site. Participation in these events will be in line with AmeriCorps program regulations/restrictions. Education/Experience/Knowledge/Skills Required: Valid driver s license and ability to meet host site s insurance requirements.

4 Microsoft Office Suite (especially Word/Excel) Preferred/helpful: Knowledge of, and willingness to promote, the mission and activities of Habitat for Humanity and AmeriCorps Strong written and verbal communication skills Strong research skills Detail oriented and highly organized Ability to work with a diverse group of people Experience working as a member of a team Marketing experience is highly desirable Knowledge of Raisers Edge Physical requirements for this position Ability to sit at a desk and computer for extended periods of time About 20% of this position requires outreach in the community, including visiting buildings and homes that may have stairs, as well as serving on project sites that might have uneven terrain. Member must be able to work in both indoor and outdoor environments and around dirt or dust. Occasional visits to the build sites to meet with donors may be required. Service Site Environment: Describe type of office space, computer and communication equipment, internet and access, construction tools, etc. that will be provided for the AmeriCorps member(s). Please note AmeriCorps members are prohibited from serving in a home office: Members will serve in an open-space office and will share space with other staff and/or AmeriCorps members. Each member will have a desk, computer (with and internet access), and a phone for service-related tasks. Shared resources include a printer, copy machine, fax machine as well as office supplies. Personal vehicle required? No Yes If yes, provide explanation detailing necessary usage of vehicle. If member will be using a company vehicle, also include in the details: Examples (please modify to make this specific to your host site): Some travel is required for this position. Public transportation options are limited in our community so access to a personal vehicle is required to get to and from service, as well as any required meetings. Approved service-related mileage (beyond commuting to and from service) will be reimbursed per the affiliate s policy.
