3 PART - 1 User 1 Introduction The purpose of this guide it to show the steps required to view your allocated workload. Your workload will have been allocated in accordance with the Faculty s workload policy. 2 Me Page This page will display when you log into WAMS. There are two sections to this screen, the Me section and the My WAMS section. The Me section displays the information that is held in WAMS about you, if this is incorrect please inform your School Manager. WAMS User Guide V2 Page 3 of 8

4 3 My WAMS Overview The My WAMS section displays the workload allocated to you. There are 6 headings that are called work unit types. These are: Contact This represents the actual teaching hours. TRA (Teaching Related Activity) This is made up of 3 areas of work. The amount of time allocated to supervising UG dissertations and PGT dissertations, and the amount of time accompanying teaching hours (every contact hour also has an additional 1.5 hours of time attached to it). Research Time allocated to research activity. This is also where study leave will appear. PGR Sup This is the time allocated to primary and secondary supervision of PgR students. ALM (Academic Leadership and Management) This is the time allocated to leadership roles at School, Faculty, or institutional level. Other This is time allocated to other activities such as enterprise and engagement, continuous professional development, and headroom (admin, etc.). WAMS User Guide V2 Page 4 of 8

5 4 Display Options a) b) c) d) You can define how you want to see your workload displayed. a) Show percentages displays your workload allocation as a percentage of your target hours. b) Show chart displays a doughnut chart of your allocation over the high level workload categories. c) Table Size Changes the size of the font in the workload detail grid. d) FTE Confirms the FTE% on WAMS for you in this department. 4 Expanding the Data. The workload detail grid may be expanded to give more detailed information. Expand the data by selecting the icon next to the workload category you would like to expand. The individual workload items are displayed with the hours allocated to them. In order to hide this detail, select the icon. WAMS User Guide V2 Page 5 of 8

6 In this example, 24 hours of contact time have been allocated for the AMAA5106B seminar group 1. This equates to 2 hours teaching per week on this seminar group as we count each taught semester as 12 weeks. WAMS User Guide V2 Page 6 of 8

7 5 Accepting or Declining your Workload Allocation Workload is allocated according to the Faculty s workload policy but the person allocating workload may need to undertake an amount of modelling to find the most effective way of allocating the necessary workload. When the allocator has completed the allocation of your workload, it will be released to you. The process of releasing your workload to you is referred to as the workload being Published. You will receive an telling you that your workload has been published and requesting that you review it. At the bottom of the My WAMS section on your Me page, this box will appear. When you have viewed your workload allocation and any associated comments, you must either Click on the Yes box if you wish to agree to the workload allocation. Click on the No box and a text area will appear in which you may type a comment which will be ed to your School Manager. To view all comments associated with your workload allocation for the academic year, click View comments. 6 Further Support If you would like more help in using WAMS, please contact your School Manager.
