1 MERCY HEALTH POSITION DESCRIPTION Position title: Entity/Group: Business Unit/Department: Executive Director, Mercy Hospital for Women and O Connell Family Centre Mercy Health Health Services Employee name: Date: May 2010 Position reports to: Position Background: Chief Operating Officer, Mercy Health Positions reporting to this one: Director of Nursing/Hospital Manager Clinical Directors o Maternity and Obstetrics o Gynecology o Neonatal Services o Clinical Support Chief Medical Officer Director of Nursing/Manager O Connell Family Service Senior Finance and Human Resources staff (as appointed by Director Finance and Director People, Culture and Learning) The position reports to the Chief Operating Officer, Mercy Health and will work closely with all direct reports to ensure the effective, efficient and economic delivery of health services at Mercy Hospital for Women and O Connell Family Centre. The Executive Director will be responsible for leading the implementation of the services long term plan and for working with the Chief Operating Officer in planning for future service needs. The incumbent is also required to develop expert knowledge and understanding related to the delivery of public health services to specific client groups (e.g. maternity and neonatal services, acute care and mental health services; and sub acute health care).

2 Position Purpose: To ensure proper conduct, leadership and management of Mercy Hospital for Women consistent with Mercy Health s mission, vision and values. To empower and develop an executive leadership team in the delivery of high quality services consistent with the strategic and annual operating plans and budget of Mercy Health. To recommend new service initiatives and/or enhancements. To develop a performance culture focused on quality, safety, access and financial outcomes and ensure integration of the service into the wider Mercy Health group. Qualifications and requirements: Appropriate and relevant post graduate qualification. Undergraduate qualification in health or business areas. Demonstrated senior management experience in health care or other complex organisations. Demonstrated experience in business development. Drivers License and prepared to travel between sites.
