3 Way#1: Participate in Campus Placement Campus placement or campus interview is the program conducted within educational institutes or in a common place / college / university to provide jobs to students pursuing or in the stage of completing the pro-gramme. Placement Officer works in coordination with companies and asks them to visit the colleges to select students depending on their ability to work, capability, focus and aim. Generally campus placement includes presentations by company, aptitude test, group discussion and technical interviews. At college level you may be loaded with assignments or tests, which may make you, feel hateful to prepare for campus placement interview. But you need to understand that ultimate goal of pursuing degree is getting a job. So, it is very important for you to stay in touch with placement officer and prepare beforehand for campus placement interview. You can also take help of your seniors who can guide you about what type of companies generally visits your campus and the type of interview they are going to take. 2

4 Way#2: Participate in Job Fair In some colleges placement cell is not active. So, no or fewer companies come to visit the campus. Don t worry! You can look out for off campus placement in other colleges happening around your city. You can go participate in placement fairs happening in common public place. A job fair is also referred commonly as a career fair or career expo. It is a fair or exposition for employers, recruiters, and schools to meet with prospective job seekers. Expos usually include companies or organizations tables or booths where resumes can be collected and business can be exchanged. 5 Way#3: Update resumes on job portals Regularly update your resume on job portals with necessary keywords. Almost all job sites will provide you with a questionnaire which you have to fill. It questions you on your core skills, professional experience, qualifications, your profile, etc. You need to fill this carefully as this is a screening test used by employers to select their candidate. Make sure your contact details are correct and updated. 4

6 Way#4: Follow your dream company When you are looking for job, first and foremost it is important to have statement of purpose (SOP). SOP helps you choose job not only for earning money but to make long term career. Next, you can make list of companies where you want to work and do suitable research about companies by visiting their website, following them on social media. You need to check regular updates from companies so that you can appear for interview whenever opportunity comes. Also you can network with employees working in such companies. Doing so will help you understand the culture of the company and you might get some recommendations. 5

7 Way#5: Join Job Orientation Programs You can consider joining job oriented skill development program. Such programs not only help you develop the right skills needed to crack your interview but also help you in job hunting. Now a days owing a degree is not sufficient to get a job. You need to have right communication skills, personality, problem solving approach and aptitude to get a job. Generally, colleges focus on completing curriculum and miss out helping students develop soft skills or job skills. Such programs can guide you in resume development, preparing for job interview and learning job hunting strategies. 6

8 Way#6: Follow employment newspapers / blogs There are many monthly / weekly newspapers which publish new openings. For example Times Ascent is a good source of information published weekly with The Times of India. You can check out monthly Employment Newspaper which is easily available on all newspaper stands. You can subscribe to websites like freshersworld.com, helpbiotech.com etc. These websites can give you easy updates on jobs and venue of interview. 7
