1 CIVIL SERVICE EXAMINATION POLICE OFFICER The Franklin Civil Service Commission will conduct a written examination to establish a current Police Officer eligibility list for the City of Franklin. The written examination will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2018, beginning promptly at 9:30 a.m., at the Franklin Public Library located at 44 E. Fourth Street in Franklin. Study materials are available at the Franklin Public Library. A physical agility test will also take place on Saturday, November 17, 3:00 p.m. The location of the agility test will be at Veterans Memorial Field located within the Franklin Community Park at 306 East Sixth Street, Franklin, Ohio The physical agility test consists of sit-ups, push-ups and running. Please allow 2 ½ to 3 hours on day of testing. Applicants must be between the ages of twenty-one (21) and forty (40) on the date of the written examination. A photo identification must be shown on the day of testing. Applicants attaining a passing score and attaching a copy of the Ohio Peace Officers Training Certificate to the application will have three (3) points added to their final score. Candidates must have their Ohio Peace Officers Training certificate to be appointed, although applicants may take the exam before acquiring that certificate. Applicants who have an honorable discharge from the military of the United States will have five (5) points added to their final score. A copy of your DD214 or Honorable Discharge certificate must accompany your application for credit. Any Franklin Auxiliary Officer who attains passing score will have five (5) points added to their final score. Completed application and forms must be received at the City Building on or before FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 9, 2018 AT 4 P.M. No faxed applications will be accepted. 3 CITY OF FRANKLIN An Equal Opportunity Employer POSITION DESCRIPTION Page 2 of 3 Position Number: Name: Police Officer ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION: (For purposes of 42 USC 12101) (1) Enforces the laws and ordinances of the City and all other pertinent laws; patrols assigned area; investigates suspicious conditions and complaints, and arrests persons who violate laws and ordinances; answers criminal complaints and takes necessary corrective action; conducts investigations of juvenile offenders. (2) Accompanies prisoners to jail and headquarters and appears in court as arresting officer; attends fires or accidents, gives all possible assistance, and prepares necessary reports; gives advice on laws, ordinances, and general information to the public; follows the Chain of Command. (3) Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to essential functions. (4) Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance. INHERENTLY HAZARDOUS OR PHYSICALLY DEMANDING WORKING CONDITIONS: (For purposes of O.R.C. 4167) Work conditions vary by shift. The majority of tasks are performed outside while working from a police cruiser. Few tasks require heavy lifting, pushing, pulling, or carrying heavy loads.
