TASK Disassemble, clean, and reassemble transmission/transaxle components. CDX Tasksheet Number: C Research the procedure to disassemble, clean, and reassemble the transmission/ transaxle in the appropriate service information. a. List any special tools required for this task: b. List, or print off and attach to this sheet, the procedure to disassemble and reassemble thetransmission/transaxle: 2. Following the specified procedure, disassemble the transmission/transaxle, ensuring that you note their location and orientation. Make notes or take pictures as appropriate. Lay them out in a logical manner to facilitate reassembly. Note: Round objects such as gears, shafts, ball bearings, roller bearings, and bushings can roll off of the work table if not secured, causing personal injury. This could also lead to damage or loss of the components. Always lay round objects on their side when possible, or store them in a work tray to prevent rolling. 3. Clean the components according to the specified procedure. Make sure you relocate them in the same logical sequence as before. 4. Perform a preliminary visual inspection of the components. This is an initial inspection designed to identify major issues with the transmission/transaxle. Further inspection of the subunits and parts will occur as you perform the next several tasks. List your observations: 5. Have your supervisor/instructor verify the initial disassembly and your observations.

Inspect transmission/transaxle case, extension housing, case mating surfaces, bores, bushings, and vents; perform necessary action. 1. Research the procedure and any specifications for inspecting the transmission/ transaxle case, extension housing, case mating surfaces, bores, bushings, and vents in the appropriate service information. a. List any specifications for the above components: 2. Following the specified procedure, inspect the transmission/transaxle case, extension housing, case mating surfaces, bores, bushings, and vents. List your observations: 3. Determine any necessary action/s: 4. Have your supervisor/instructor verify your observations.

Inspect and replace gaskets, seals, and sealants; inspect sealing surfaces. 1. Research the inspection and replacement procedure for the gaskets and seals in the appropriate service information. a. List any specified sealants: b. List any specified precautions: c. List any required special tools: 2. Inspect the gaskets, seals, and sealing surfaces. List your observations for each component. a. Gaskets: b. Seals: c. Sealing surfaces: 3. Determine any necessary action/s: 4. Have your supervisor/instructor verify your observations.

Inspect and reinstall synchronizer hub, sleeve, keys (inserts), springs, and blocking rings. 1. Research the procedure to inspect and reinstall the synchronizer assemblies in the appropriate service information. a. How many synchronizer assemblies are there? b. What gears use a synchronizer assembly? c. List any specifications or inspection guidelines: 2. Following the specified procedure, remove each synchronizer hub, sleeve, keys (inserts), springs, and blocking rings from the mainshaft. a. Inspect the components from each synchronizer assembly. List your observations: 3. Have your supervisor/instructor verify disassembly and your recommendations and initial below. a. Supervisor/instructor s initials: 4. Following the specified procedure, reassemble the synchronizer assemblies onto the mainshaft. List your observations: 5. Have your supervisor/instructor verify your work and observations.

Measure end play or preload (shim or spacer selection procedure) on transmission/ transaxle shafts; perform necessary action. 1. Research the procedure and specifications to measure and adjust end play or preload in the appropriate service information. a. Mainshaft end play/preload: in/mm b. Countershaft end play/preload: in/mm c. Reverse gear end play/preload, if used: in/mm d. Overdrive gear end play/preload, if used: in/mm e. How is end play/preload adjusted for each of the above? 2. Have your supervisor/instructor verify your answers and initial here: 3. Following the specified procedure, measure end play/preload for each of the following. a. Mainshaft end play/preload: in/mm b. Countershaft end play/preload: in/mm c. Reverse gear end play/preload, if used: in/mm d. Overdrive gear end play/preload, if used: in/mm 4. Determine any necessary action/s: 5. Have your supervisor/instructor verify your measurements and recommendations and initial below. a. Supervisor/Instructor s initials: 6. Perform any necessary actions to bring the end play/preload into specifications. List your observations: 7. Have your supervisor/instructor verify your work and observations.

Inspect, adjust, and reinstall shift cover, forks, levers, grommets, shafts, sleeves, detent mechanism, interlocks, and springs. 1. Research the procedure and specifications to inspect, adjust, and install shift mechanism components in the appropriate service information. a. List any special tools required to perform this task: b. List, or print off and attach to this sheet, the procedure to inspect, adjust, and install these components: 2. Following the specified procedure, inspect each of the following parts and list your observations. a. Shift cover: b. Shift forks: c. Levers: d. Grommets: e. Shafts: f. Sleeves: g. Detent mechanism, interlock, and springs: 3. Following the specified procedure, install and adjust the shift mechanism components. List your observations: 4. Have your supervisor/instructor verify your work and observations.

Inspect, test, and replace transmission/transaxle sensors and switches. 1. Research the procedure and specifications to inspect, test, and replace transmission/transaxle sensors and switches in the appropriate service information. a. List any switches or sensors this transmission/transaxle is equipped with: b. List any specifications for each of the above: c. List, or print off and attach to this sheet, the procedure for testing the switches/sensors: 2. Following the specified procedure, inspect and test each switch/sensor. List your observations: 3. Determine any necessary action/s: 4. Have your supervisor/instructor verify your observations and recommendations and initial below.

5. If instructed, remove and replace any defective switches/sensors. List your observation/s: Once you have completed the above tasks, reassemble the remainder of the transmission/transaxle. Be sure to perform any free play or preload adjustments and tighten all fasteners to the proper torque. List your observations: Have your supervisor/instructor verify satisfactory completion of this procedure, any observations found, and any necessary action/s recommended.
