1 HR ADVISOR JOB DESCRIPTION Part time: 0.6 (equivalent to 3 days per week, flexible working pattern to be agreed, including frontloading days at the start of the contract if appropriate) Fixed-term: 12 months from January 2019 Salary: 30,000-35,000 p.a. pro rata depending on experience (i.e. 18,000-21,000 actual for 3 days per week) BACKGROUND TO ROLE Acme has been supporting artists since 1972 through the provision of affordable artist studios, housing and an extensive residencies and awards programme. Our mission is to provide the time, space, financial support and other opportunities that artists need. We believe that by reducing the practical challenges that artists face, we increase their ability to take greater creative risks. In 2018, Acme will support over 700 individual artist tenants with affordable studios across 16 buildings in Greater London, as well as provide accommodation in 22 live/work units and 35 residencies and awards opportunities for UK and international artists. We all work in the same

2 open-plan office together (though there is a meeting room), and try to have as non-hierarchical approach to people management as possible. A significant proportion of the staff are practising fine artists and balance their career as artists with their work at Acme. Due to continued growth and advance planning for structural change, we are now seeking a HR Advisor to build on our existing good practice and introduce us to even better ways to manage our people supportively, productively and compliantly. We have created this as a fixed-term role to reflect the kind of set-up and one-off projects that we think will be needed in the first year alone. We will review, with the role holder, what the ongoing HR function might look like beyond this initial contract once the fixed-term contract is well underway. As our first in-house HR specialist, the HR Advisor will be responsible for implementing and updating systems and procedures where necessary, providing essential HR support and working with our Executive leadership team in order to develop streamlined, fit-for-purpose HR systems that will serve the going forward. JOB PURPOSE To provide advice and practical support to Acme s Executive team, line managers and team members on HR matters in order to create sustainable systems and practices that contribute to a supportive and productive people management culture across the. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Articulate and, where needed, create HR policies and practices that are sensitive to Acme s values and working culture, and which will help our line managers navigate their people management responsibilities and our team members understand how Acme approaches people management matters. Provide ongoing and proactive advice to the Executive and Senior Management Teams on HR strategy and practice across the. Provide ongoing and proactive guidance to all staff in HR matters arising. Provide hands-on support so that Acme is able to handle any escalated HR issues in a sensitive, solution-focussed and compliant manner. Act as a go-between as needed about HR matters across the. Duties will be as needed to carry out the role s key responsibilities, and we expect the role holder to shape these once in post. At this planning stage, we expect that initial duties are likely to include: Review, develop and (in some cases) create role profiles/job descriptions for all Acme roles in partnership with SMT, ensuring that these documents help

3 communicate expectations and support fair pay decisions across all teams. Review and propose improvements to current pay decision practices. Review and propose improvements to the current employee experience, from pre-recruitment to post-exit. Review and update company policies ensuring that long-term systems policies and procedures are created in line with legal requirements and al values. Review, update and, where necessary, set up appropriate HR records. Review the need for HR software, and make recommendations accordingly. Set up and run staff survey, or similar, to gather information and make recommendations on our employee experience that will lead to improvements where needed. Provide support to the interdepartmental Equal Opportunities Working Party. Review and make recommendations on the shape and level of an ongoing internal HR function beyond this role s fixed term contract. PERSON SPECIFICATION ESSENTIAL Education Specialist HR training or equivalent by experience Knowledge Up to date generalist knowledge of employment law and how it relates to good employment practice Up to date generalist knowledge of equal opportunities, inclusion and diversity principles and how they relate to good employment practice Working knowledge of change management principles Working knowledge of good project management Understanding of how to gather and interpret reliable data to support up-to-date and compliant HR decisions DESIRABLE Undergraduate degree CIPD certified qualification Up to date generalist knowledge of employment law and how it relates to good employment practice Understanding of the building and development sector Understanding of the needs of contemporary working artists Specialist knowledge of inclusion and diversity and how they apply in practice to creating diverse and flexible employee communities
