2 Job Description Black Umbrellas Black Umbrellas (BU) is a non-profit enterprise development service provider that seeks to deliver real and meaningful transformation of society through empowered, organic business growth. Position Title: Reporting to: Based at: Communications officer To be determined Head Office Job Purpose and Overview: The Communications Officer will report directly to (to be determined) and manage BU s media profile, reputation and brand integrity, stakeholder relations as well as the fundraising for BU. Key Responsible Areas: o o o Manage BU s media profile o Execute on the organisational communication strategy o Produce media releases announcing events, awards and other BU news o Organise media networking activities o Engage public relations (PR) agency to support public relations activities o Produce key messages document, updated regularly, to guide statements and responses to media queries o Develop media protocol document, outlining procedures for engagement with media o Opinion pieces to position BU as a significant voice on enterprise development Manage reputation and brand integrity o Identify and manage reputational risk o Develop procedures for managing reputational crises o Report regularly to the COO on areas of reputational concern o Produce holding statements on areas of concern Oversee BU s digital and social media strategy o Execute on the digital communications strategy o Ensure the BU website is effective, relevant and up-to-date 1 B U : H R / R e c r u i t m e n t / J D / 0 1 5

3 o o o o Manage BU s presence on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube and other social media platforms BU s marketing strategy o Execute on the marketing strategy for the organisation o Profile BU and BP activities through publications, reports, etc. o Promote BU and BP through display collateral and promotional material o Develop protocol on usage and placement of BU and BP brand in different circumstances o Produce and distribute BU and BP newsletters o Manage production and distribution of BU annual report Stakeholder Relations o Execute on existing stakeholder relations strategy, revised annually o Develop and maintain integrated stakeholder database, outlining contact details, significance, messages and types of engagement o Co-ordinate stakeholder engagement across the group, with specific focus on corporate and government o Organise opportunities for interaction with stakeholders, including road shows, presentations, and informal events o Distribute BU publications and other information to relevant stakeholders o Monitor the policy and regulatory environment for developments that may affect BU Internal communication Ensure internal stakeholders are kept abreast with all developments through a number of mediums including MyBU, , quarterly newsletter and telephonic 2 B U : H R / R e c r u i t m e n t / J D / 0 1 5

4 Qualifications: Under Graduate Degree in Marketing or Communications 3-4 years professional working experience in a marketing or communications environment Experience and Knowledge: Proven knowledge on general business and commercial acumen Stakeholder engagement skills Must have experience and knowledge in the effective implementation of policies and procedures Broad knowledge of all media Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to function independently and within a team Conduct To behave in a professional manner at all times, reflecting and maintaining the values and ethos of the organisation and generating a positive image of the organisation To adhere to all the organisation s policies and procedures to ensure that these are maintained at all times 3 B U : H R / R e c r u i t m e n t / J D / 0 1 5
