We hve mny pprenticeships for you to choose from, rnging from Business nd Computing to Childcre, Motor Vehicle Mintennce nd Construction. Our specilist stff hve knowledge spnning mny different industries. We hve built mny excellent working reltionships with locl employers. Wht is n pprenticeship? Doing n pprenticeship is wy of lerning profession by combining studying the knowledge nd skills t college with getting rel work experience in pid job. There re three levels of pprenticeship: Intermedite (Level 2) Advnced (Level 3) Higher (Level 4 nd bove) You cn do pprenticeships in whole rnge of subjects, from Computing nd Ctering to Childcre nd Construction, Hirdressing, Business nd more. 4 Apprenticeships Informtion for pplicnts 2019/20

7 Wht re the benefits of doing n pprenticeship? Ern while you lern. Ern money nd get experience working, while getting the skills nd qulifictions tht employers wnt you to hve. Gret support. You will receive ll the support you need from both Nescot College nd your employer to succeed. Lern t your own pce. As n pprentice, you re encourged to tke the time you need to understnd something, nd sk for help if you don t. Do rel job. All pprentices do rel jobs, usully longside full-time collegues, so you cn get sense of wht the work will be like once you finish your trining. Prcticl experience. By the time you finish your trining you ll not only be qulified to work in the trde, you ll hve n understnding of your role nd trde tht you cn t red in book. Trnsferble skills. Although your trining will be specific to your profession, you ll lso gin skills like time mngement, temwork, numercy, nd n understnding of how trdes work together. Gret prospects. You could progress to the next pprenticeship level, go into Higher Eduction, sty with your compny or look for new job elsewhere. 8 Who is eligible for n pprenticeship? Anyone who hs been resident in the UK/EU for three yers or more, ged 16 or older, nd not in eduction. Wht re the entry requirements? Entry requirements vry between courses, but they re flexible. You will need to show tht you re interested in nd committed to the course you ve chosen. Typiclly you will need Grde C/4 GCSE in English nd mths nd ICT. How much will I ern s n pprentice? As n pprentice you re gurnteed to ern t lest the Ntionl Minimum Wge for Apprentices. As of April 2018, this is 3.70 n hour for pprentices in their first yer nd/or ged under 19. There is no upper limit to wht pprentices cn be pid, nd mny re pid much more thn the minimum wge. How much does doing n pprenticeship cost? The mjority of the cost will still be met by the government nd in some cses employers lso hve to contribute. 13 How cn I find job? To do n pprenticeship you need to work t lest 30 hours per week in relevnt job. If you don t hve job, Nescot cn help. We hve n Employer Hub t college where stff cn help you to find suitble employer. They ll lso help you work on your CV, get you redy for your interview nd give you ll the support you need. An pprentice would typiclly spend one dy week either in college or trining in the workplce nd the rest of the time would be spent working on the job. At college you ll be tught in vriety of wys, including: Prcticl nd theory clsses One-to-one tutorils, guidnce nd support Prcticl nd written ssessments, with feedbck Being observed t work by qulified ssessor How long do pprenticeships tke? Apprenticeships re flexible they end when you ve completed ll the necessry elements. How long tht tkes will depend on the course you choose nd the level you do, s well your previous experience. A Level 2 pprenticeship usully tkes months, Level 3 is usully months, nd Level 4 qulifiction tkes 24 months on verge. Wht qulifictions will I get? You will gin Ntionl Voctionl Qulifiction, otherwise known s n NVQ. For exmple: Level 2 (Intermedite) NVQ in Animl Cre, equivlent to five GCSEs t grdes A-C; Level 3 NVQ in Plumbing, equivlent to two A-Levels; or Level 4 NVQ in IT, roughly equivlent to Foundtion Degree Apprenticeships Informtion for pplicnts 2019/20 13
