You will have a strong support network consisting of your line manager, a buddy and our wider future talent community Placements typically span one year and we have previously offered placements in each of our divisions and every Novartis UK location. 2 Degree: Biological Sciences University: The University of the West of England Novartis graduate scheme: Marketing Assistant Ophthalmology and Neuroscience I have previous experience working on clinical trials, but wanted to expand my skills by moving into a commercial role. I was attracted to the Novartis graduate scheme and to Novartis as an organisation based on the company s commitment to pushing the boundaries of science and making a meaningful difference to patients lives. Being part of a high performing team and learning from my colleagues has helped me create my own strong development plan, as well as strengthen my existing skill set. During your placement, we will work with you to consider your future career opportunities at Novartis. Who we are looking for: To be considered for our placement opportunities, you must be a recent Bachelors or Masters graduate. We accept a range of disciplines for commercial roles however specific courses of study may be required for some roles. We are looking for proactive, autonomous, self-starters with excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a strong sense of teamwork. You will be a quick learner who is and able to prioritse to deliver objectives and projects. Some relevant work experience is desirable, preferably within your area of interest, but is not essential. You will need to be fluent in English and demonstrate good Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, and Excel) skills A strong desire to enhance your skills and flexibility on work location is also essential to

3 enable you to build breadth into your future career after your placement within different roles, different business units and by working in different locations. Recruitment process: New vacancies are advertised via our partner Cogent Skills There are several stages of the application process. To apply, simply search the Cogent website for available opportunities within your area of interest and submit your CV and covering letter by the set deadline for your chosen placement. Cogent will contact you to let you know if you have been successful in achieving a telephone interview at the initial stage. Following the initial screening, a 2nd stage, face-to-face assessment with Novartis will be scheduled for successful candidates. The pharmaceutical industry was a sector I was always interested in joining once I left university so I applied to the Novartis UK graduate scheme. With a background in both science and business from my university studies, I wanted the opportunity to broaden these skills within a professional environment and believed Novartis UK would be the right place to do this. What are your key learnings from taking part in the scheme? During my time in role, my leadership, communication and organisational skills have developed significantly through the opportunities to lead and drive key commercial projects over the year. The scheme has given me the opportunity to learn more about the industry and work alongside a top marketing team in a leading pharmaceutical company, which has given me a really strong start to my career!

4 Iona's graduate case study What advice would you offer to future applicants of the Novartis UK graduate scheme? My main advice would be to make the most of all opportunities! Build relationships and network with as many people as possible in all areas of the business as this will really help you moving forward. Also, be proactive if something sounds interesting to you and you want to get involved in it then voice it! Placed within one of our busy Pharmaceutical or Oncology franchises, you will learn how our commercial teams operate and develop in-depth knowledge of your designated therapeutic area and our products. We will support you to apply the skills you have gained during your degree and develop new capabilities, such as how to implement sales and marketing plans and how to collate business information and prepare for meetings. After your initial training is complete, you will have the opportunity to lead and manage your own projects. Responsibilities may include some or all of the following: Development and delivery of specific projects that will achieve overall brand and franchise objectives, such as the organisation and management of congresses Providing a broad range of proactive administrative support to the Business Franchise to support the Marketing, Customer Relations, Medical and/or Sales functions Supporting Brand Managers in developing marketing materials Managing the launch and recall of sales materials for field force, and updates where necessary Providing analytical support to feed into brand plans, sales planning etc. Co-ordination of team meetings, organisation of itineraries and logistics for ongoing department/franchise activities etc. Being a champion for internal communications Kimberley's graduate case study

5 Degree: Biomedical Sciences University: Queens University, Belfast Novartis graduate scheme: Sales Force Effectiveness and Marketing Internship Current position: Brand Manager, Sandoz For me, the benefits of joining the Novartis graduate scheme were having my own responsibilities, ownership of projects and feeling valued within my team. I was given the opportunity to be involved in one of the biggest product launches in the company, in which I benefitted greatly from collaboration of a number of departments across the whole business. My advice to future applicants to the graduate scheme is to expect and embrace all the challenges they will benefit you in every future role you take.
