1 Circus Arts Australia Job Description Job Title: Café/Barista staff and Circus Coach JOB OBJECTIVE AND RESPONSIBILITIES: This is a multi-faceted role, requiring the staff member to be very versatile and jump into which-ever role requires to be filled at the time. The main area of responsibility is the Café, but this person will also need to Coach Circus classes for young kids and Birthday parties, as well as being the first to be called upon to do a climbing briefing, assist or cover reception. There will also be set Cleaning tasks assigned to this person as well as scheduled opening, closing times and other tasks. APTITUDE AND SKILLS REQUIRED: Exceptional customer service and remaining calm, while being accurate under pressure (multiple customers and orders simultaneously) are required. Must be punctual, presentable, personable and able to work effectively in a team and independently. Required to show initiative and self-motivation in completing / finding extra tasks to complete and have excellent time management skills. Prior experience in Cafe and Barista skills desirable, or the ability to learn the required skills in a short period of time. Prior Circus and / or Climbing experience or coaching are desirable or/and the person must also be active and willing to learn basic climbing and circus coaching skills and enjoy working with people of all ages and abilities, especially young children. Prior Reception and / or Administration experience and experience with computers, Word, Excel, Database software, and general computer competency preferred. Working With Children s Check (WWCC), or the ability to obtain one required First Aid certification desirable. Safe Food Handling certificate and NSW RSA certificate desirable. Availability to work some weekends and evenings is required. AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY Café Service great Coffees, food and drinks, keep café and seating area clean, Shop and restock. Circus Coaching Coach younger kids in Circus and run Birthday party circus classes when needed. i.e. Kinder, Pre-circus and general circus skills classes. Climbing area Conduct Auto and two person belay briefings, assess competency and evaluate risks. Reception desk Assist at reception when reception on a break or very busy. Greeting customers, processing in Bookeo, taking payments, answering phone, take notes for receptionist to follow up on. Laundry room Wash and dry laundry Toilets Check Toilets for cleanliness Main Hall Assist with Checks, cleaning and maintenance when asked. WORKING RELATIONSHIPS: Works closely with the Director, General Manager and Training Coordinator to arrange Roster and coverage Works closely with Reception and other Café and backup staff to effectively cover front of house (Reception, Café, Climb and extra coach) duties. Builds relationships with customers, including kids, parents, and private groups. PERFORMANCE STANDARDS: Follow CA Policies and Procedures Be punctual, reliable, responsible and trustworthy

2 Maintain a happy friendly work environment Present a neat, professional and healthy image to our customers Self and customer Safety to be of the highest priority in all classes and other duties Remain calm under pressure and still offer great customer service Consistently serve excellent coffee Consistently serve food using safe food handling techniques and in a presentable manner Consistently keep café and seating area clear and clean Effectively and efficiently run climbing briefings and able to assess competency of customers Run or assist as a circus coach effectively, following agreed upon lesson plans Be accurate with orders, till and money and when on reception Perform all tasks in a timely manner by completion dates. POSSIBLE TASKS: Café Duties: Be able to consistently serve a variety of great expresso coffees to customers i.e. Barista skills and experience Stocktake and shop for needed daily items efficiently and at appropriate time Accurately follow Till and Café procedures Ability to handle cash and EFTPOS transactions and close tills at end of shift. Ability to prepare food, using safe food handling practices for individuals or larger groups Open Café, stock and closing café duties Ability to keep working spaces clean and tidy. Efficiently clear and clean tables and sweep café floor as needed Effectively rotate stock by due dates and mark dates and products as required Check Laundry and clean and dry items as needed Clean and put away Party table cloths and items in their storage areas Circus Coach: Lead Kinder, pre-circus or other more basic circus classes and privates. Coach Birthday parties in basic circus skills. A willingness to learn the skills required to teach these more basic circus level skills. Setup Class area before class and put gear away afterwards Present educational and fun classes to a variety of ages and abilities Good class management skills and customer service Follow lesson plans and progressions Ability to encourage clients to return for more. Climbing Coach: Have the skills already or have a willingness to learn climbing skills to a level to be able to effectively teach clients how to Belay safely, perform basic client rescues and teach basic climbing skills. Knowledge of climbing equipment. Reception Duties: Effectively answer customer s questions relating to all 4 of our locations. Become familiar with the types of classes offered, pricings and how to find additional information when needed. Ability to stay calm and accurate when multiple customers, phones are vying for you attention. Accurately enter customers details and bookings into booking database Ability to work in MS word, Excel, database apps, apps, Window 7 & 10 and Google doc s and enter data in multiple ways. Ability to handle customer complaint, making the customer feel heard and valued, while also following the company polices.

3 Ability to process all the differing ways that customers book classes i.e. face to face, phone, , online sales and external providers. Ability to handle cash and EFTPOS transactions and balance Till at end of day. Show an active interest in our customers, greeting by name and welcoming them into the circus space. Other Duties: Effectively open or close the Byron facility when needed Multiple cleaning duties. o Kitchen, fridges, freezers, coffee machine, ovens, counters, floors, plates, cups, utensils. o Café seating area o Laundry o Customer toilets o Climbing area o Assist reception with Playspace when needed Assist with Events and performances Bring to management s attention, any risk management concerns Effectively communicate with all staff in a positive and supportive manner. Willingness to engage in the staff development and performance evaluations process. PAY AND CONDITIONS: Reports to: General Manager Rate: Café rate of $22.15ph casual (includes casual loading). Coaching rate of $23.00ph casual (includes casual loading). Sunday and Holiday penalty rates apply Hours: 7.5 hour each Friday, 5.5 hour each Saturday, plus other shifts as they become available, especially during school holidays. Days: Friday and Saturday. Availability to work weekends is required. Start: Late October 2016
