1 Job Description Job Title: Responsible to: Development Officer (Trusts & Foundations) Head of Development Bristol Music Trust Launched in May 2011 the Bristol Music Trust (BMT) is an exciting independent charity with two distinct aims. The first is to manage the operations of Colston Hall, Bristol s largest concert venue, where people have been enjoying music since 1867; developing a diverse musical programme, leading a major capital refurbishment programme and securing its commercial success. The Hall presents a wonderful opportunity to build a diverse Music & Arts Centre; comprising a traditional concert hall, a smaller intimate hall and an inspiring newly built foyer. From September 2018, BMT will be responsible for the National Centre for Inclusive Excellence, which has been set up to explore and champion the role of music and the arts in civic life and break down barriers preventing people from fulfilling their musical potential. The second aim is to drive forward music across Bristol; working in partnership with city wide organisations; leading on music education through Creative Learning & Engagement, commissioning new works, supporting local musicians, and promoting music across all communities to build on the vibrant talent already in the city. Much more, we want the Bristol music scene to stand out with its own unique culture and internationally renowned reputation. Bristol Music Trust s vision is to put music at the heart of Bristol life, and to lead a strategic, holistic, citywide approach to promoting music so that it flourishes through performance, composition, participation and education. Team The Development Team is led by the Head of Development, and is responsible for the fundraising strategy and activity for Bristol Music Trust, with a current focus on the capital redevelopment of Colston Hall, our music programme and Bristol Plays Music education work. It raises voluntary funds for the Trust from individuals, companies and charitable trusts and foundations. The Development team also plays an advocacy role for the Trust. Purpose of the Job This is a support and coordination role within the Development Team working across a range of funding streams and projects as required including corporate sponsorship, individual giving (including Colston Hall patron and membership schemes), trusts and foundations, events and supporting the administration and activity of the Capital Fundraising Strategy. The Development Officer role will be directly managed by the Head of Development, but will also take direction from the Development Manager and work closely with all Page 1 of 5

2 team members. Key Responsibilities Trusts and Foundations 1. Planning & Organising, Communication work with the Head of Development and Development consultant on the Trusts and Foundations strategy for capital and revenue bids over the next three years 2. Development, Professional, Communication Write a number of smaller Trusts and Foundations applications and manage the reporting, and administration. 3. Teamwork, Planning & Organising, Communication, - Head of Development and Development Consultant on large capital and multi-year revenue bids. 4. Communication, Planning & Organising - Manage and support organisation relationships with trustees and administrators of our key Trust and Foundation partners. Corporate Sponsorship 5. Planning & Organising, Communication, Teamwork - Work with the Development Manager on the stewardship of our corporate sponsors, including record keeping, administration and communications. 6. Teamwork, Customer Service, Development, Professional, Adaptability - Support to sponsor events including list management, sending out invitations and coordinating the event, as well as hosting on the night as required. 7. Development, Professional, Communication, Customer Service - Research and support the development of our corporate sponsorship programme. 8. Development, Customer Service, Communication - Be the lead contact for a number of our corporate partnerships. Individuals 9. Teamwork, Planning & Organising, Communication, Customer Service - Support the administration of our patron scheme, under the guidance of the Development Manager, including communication with patrons and responding to their requirements in line with the scheme, including working with the Development Manager to provide event support. Administer our membership scheme in line with requirements, ensuring that memberships are processed promptly and that records are kept in line with data protection requirements. 10. Planning & Organisation, Communication - Action internal staff membership renewals in a timely manner and ensure the maintenance of accurate data for these memberships, liaising with HR on new starters and leavers. 11. Development, Communication, Customer Service - Evaluate the effectiveness of the membership scheme, make recommendations on how to re-engage past membership holders or upgrade existing supporters. 12. Adaptability, Customer Service, Teamwork - Work with the Development Manager on a season of membership events. 13. Communication, Planning & Organising - Provide analysis and reporting on the membership scheme as required. Capital 14. Teamwork, Development, Communication, Professional - Support the administration and activity of the capital fundraising strategy. Research and administration 15. Teamwork, Adaptability - Support the department with research and administration, as required. 16. 3 Other 17. Communication - On a day to day basis comply with the Policies and Procedures of Bristol Music Trust. Employee Specification: Essential The role holder must have the following Core and Additional Role Specific competencies: Core Competencies COMMUNICATION Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate clearly and courteously both verbally and in writing to peers, line managers, potential and current donors and funders in a practical way using appropriate methods of communication for each situation. Demonstrable experience of writing clear copy and accuracy and attention to detail in written and online work. Selects appropriate methods of communication for each situation and builds positive working relationships. Must be smart and presentable in appearance. APAPTABILITY AND FLEXIBILITY The ability to adapt to different situations and tasks, remaining calm, level headed and positive under pressure. Is proactive, reliable and flexible in response to work priorities. PLANNING AND ORGANISING The ability to prioritise workloads, set personal timetables and work to deadlines. Provides work on time and to required standards. Able to plan a wide range of simple tasks or a small number of complex ones. Is able to respond positively to changing business priorities. CUSTOMER SERVICE Has a good understanding of what makes good customer service. The ability to look for ways to provide added value for customers. Seeks to understand customer requirements and deliver to those. Experience of dealing directly with members of the public in a busy environment. TEAMWORK The ability to work effectively as part of a team with consideration and support for the needs of others. Role Specific Competencies DEVELOPMENT Previous experience of supporting fundraising. Show a commitment to and love of the arts and music PROFESSIONAL Knowledge of current trends in the music scene and an appreciation of music/arts. Experience of fundraising and development. A desire to develop a career in fundraising. Occasional Duties The role holder will carry out any other duty that is reasonably required. Your usual place of work is Colston Page 3 of 5

4 Hall, Bristol, but you may be required to work at other locations that are reasonably placed. Special Conditions The role requires you to work flexibly to complete your duties, and you may, from time to time, be required to work alternative or additional days (including evenings, weekends and bank holidays) to meet the requirements of your role, and these hours will be agreed in advance between yourself and your line manager in accordance with the requirements of the Bristol Music Trust.
