1 Youth Support Adviser Apprentice Role Brief Job description Person Specification Medway Youth Trust - Medway Role Brief (July 2014) (Skills & Employability Team) Context Medway Youth Trust(MYT) is a charity that helps to support young people to reach their potential and aspirations. MYT is paid by Medway Local Authority Council do this work. In Medway the contract is known as YES Youth Employment Services. Further information can be found on YES has centres for young people in Chatham and Gillingham. These are open at certain times so that the Skills and Employability Advisers can support young people but also the centre is open for anyone who would like to drop in to gain information and advice or use the computers for finding work or education. The has an important role within the Skills and Employability Team. The role is key to supporting the Youth Support Advisers, Skills and Employability advisers with the work of helping young people that find it difficult to get into in education, employment and/or training. The post also requires administrative tasks to support the smooth running of the centres. The YES Youth Employability Service has targets that are set by Medway Local Authority, that YES have to achieve. We also have targets from other contracts such as the Youth Contract and a Opt Into programme. Some of these are outlined below. To have a success of 70% of young people on Youth Contract achieving a positive sustainment in education or employment with training To complete all data inputting on contract specific data bases within the required timeframe All data is recorded on IYSS(the database) within 2 working days of contact with young person. To have well run centres as guided by the Manager.

2 Within the organisation all staff and volunteers contribute to Targets, those important things we want to achieve. Below these are outlined All data recording on all relevant data bases, current IYSS, Solution 9 is completed within 2 working days of initiating funding stream for young person Evidence that all young people have been assessed to be able to gain support through funding streams, 97% of young people academic age 16(year 12) who are in learning 95% of young people academic age 17(year 13) who are in learning year olds, there should be no more than 10% that are not in Education, Employment or Training.

Impact and service delivery: To support, advocate and encourage self advocacy for young people to enable them to make a positive and sustainable transition into Education, Employment or Training(EET). Your work will be delivered in the centres as directed by your manager. Provide 1:1 or group sessions for young people who require mentoring and support and preparation into the world of work. Maintaining regular and consistent contact with identified young people to achieve positive participation into EET. Referral to relevant agencies to ensure appropriate support is offered and accessed. To meet targets for contracted and commissioned work as identified through your manager. To engage with young people to join specific programs, supporting them to access and complete programmes delivered by YES Youth Employability Team. Assist with the Youth Support Adviser to set up the centre for business each day To meet and greet within the centres Assist with the updating of information within the centres Assist with general administration tasks, such as filing, copying and typing Ensure accurate client record keeping through the use of our client databases. Maintain an up to date knowledge of local labour market information, opportunities and resources to aid young people s progression. To carry out telephone/social media tracking Show professionalism and a positive attitude at all times. Comply with policies that support equality of opportunity and actively aim to work in an anti-discriminatory way.

4 To show a willingness to work flexible hours. Some projects may involve evening/weekend working. To undertake and complete an apprenticeship qualification in the most appropriate framework. Undertake any other duties as may from time to time be required which are commensurate with the post including the occasional need to work beyond office hours. The duties may be changed and/or varied to meet changing circumstances at the discretion of the management team and Chief Executive. Effective self and team: Prepare for and contribute Line Management Review, appraisal and Safeguarding Practice Reflection. Support volunteers to be valued, effective contributors of the Team. Participate in mandatory training and use CPD, reflecting on learning and development opportunities and translating learning in to practice Encourage the voice and influence of young people in design and delivery of services. Policy: The postholder is expected to work within MYT s policies and procedures, to help shape and develop them and in doing to so to champion safeguarding, diversity and safe working practice. Other duties: As an employee, there is an expectation that the postholder from time to time may get involved in all aspects of the Team, the organisation and its work.
