16 Conclusions Consider sectors of interest and be aware how jobs/ experience are sourced: Some sectors far more competitive than others! Majority of opportunities in many sectors not sourced through Grad schemes. You re likely to receive rejections: Try not to be disheartened if do not receive offers from 1 st choices Very competitive marketplace Route to work is a learned skill Don t put all your eggs in 1 basket: Consider your motivation for applying Consider having a Plan A, B, C

25 Quiz Q3: What are employers looking for? Graduate SCHEME criteria (%) Conclusions: 1. What you study does not determine what path you can follow 2. A 2.1 (standard) degree for grad schemes is often (not always) required (Postgrad qualification not generally an acceptable alternative) 3. Sector relevant or commercial work experience is not a requirement (but having it is a huge bonus) 4. Graduate job requirements not dissimilar though less emphasis on 2.1, more on relevant sector experience.

29 International students (looking to work in the UK) Be mindful of visa requirements Most common - Tier 4 to Tier 2 (General) UCL Careers can t give immigration advice in one-to-ones Relatively few organisations will sponsor International students not evenly spread. Some industries more likely than others. Think professional services not charities and ngos (salary requirements, employer appetite for costs). Check employer website Contact organisations if not clear before applying (especially for a 2019 start) Apply early for graduate schemes Places fill up fast Be flexible Industry and location Have a plan B
