3 October is Manufacturing Month by Amy Bettis, LASHRM Communication Director October 5th is Manufacturing Day and the State of Wisconsin has declared October as Manufacturing Month. As HR professionals it is a critical we understand the need to build a talent pipeline that supports manufacturers and the expanding economy. With our help we can contribute to the positive impact on the Wisconsin s robust manufacturing tradition and close the skills gap. The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction offers a springboard of resources for employers, school districts, and local organizations. Togther we can inspire the next generation and make them aware of the opportunities and career paths in manufacturing. LASHRM Board Spotlight by Beth Hill, LASHRM At-Large Government Affairs Chair My name is Beth Hill. I have been in higher education HR for the last 15+ years. I currently work for University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and previously work for Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers, FL. I have been a national SHRM member for over 10 years and was affiliated with the SWFL chapter of SHRM while working in FL. My current role is as Assistant Director, Payroll, Benefits and Employee Relations. I have been serving as the Governmental Affairs Chair since the beginning of 2018 for LASHRM and have thoroughly enjoyed getting more invested in the role, learning how HR intertwines with politics. HR s rules and regulations change as the political landscape changes. My role is to help our members understand what is happening on a national, state and local level as it relates to HR in addition to helping educate our law makers when necessary. One of my favorite activities each year is attending the Day on the Hill. Next year it will be on February 14 ( This day always includes several legal updates and speakers with important information for the HR profession. We would love to see you there. Another way to get involved is to join the SHRM Advocacy Team ( This team will help keep you informed of the most important topics that are facing our law makers and how we as HR Professionals can help educate them on our profession. And finally, I am looking to build a committee within LASHRM to help educate, advice and inform our member base on these topics. If you are interested in politics or interested in how HR and politics work together, please reach out to me to join.

4 November LASHRM Meeting Open Enrollment Toolkit by Amy Bettis, LASHRM Communication Director Susan Sieger has over 25 years of experience in the employee benefits industry. As a senior compliance consultant at Employee Benefits Corporation, she has worked with thousands of employers and has become a leading specialist in employee benefits. Ms. Sieger received a bachelor s degree in business administration with an emphasis in personnel/human resources from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. In 2006, she earned a Master s degree in servant leadership from Viterbo University (Wis.), and in 2010, she earned a Graduate Certificate in ethical leadership in organizations also from Viterbo University. Ms. Sieger is a frequent speaker on employee benefits both locally and nationwide. She has conducted seminars for the Society of Human Resources, the Wisconsin Association of School Boards (WASB) and the Wisconsin Association of Health Underwriters (WAHU) and Minnesota Association of Health Underwriters (MAHU) to name a few. In this session, we will review the legislative and regulatory landscape under the Trump Administration. What changes have occurred under President Trump and what changes might be on the horizon? How will the current ACA landscape impact your benefit strategies for 2019? We will review key compliance details that should be part of every open enrollment toolkit and year-end checklist. Join us for this up to the session details on how the current regulatory and legislative climate is impacting employee benefits now and a prediction of where we are going in REGISTER NOW! Great Rivers United Way by Jeri Zagrodnik, LASHRM President Board of Directors Opportunity Great Rivers United Way has an opening for a Board member with Human Resources active experience. The Board member will serve a three year term and chair a Human Resources Committee of the Board. This committee meets 6 times a year and focuses on giving support and be advisory regarding the organization s staff structure. This committee is also charged with Board engagement outside of monthly meetings. Which is FUN! Consider joining a nonprofit Board that has deep roots in the community and works closely with the community on social issues affecting people s lives. Make a difference for others lives using the human resources knowledge you have worked hard to hone. For more information, contact Mary Kay Wolf at mkwolf@gruw.org or call
