WHAT COMPANIES CAN I DO MY PLACEMENT WITH? HOW MUCH DO I GET PAID? HOW LONG DO PLACEMENTS LAST? HOW LONG IS THE BSC PROGRAMME? DO I HAVE TO COMPLETE A PLACEMENT? Students follow a comprehensive careers management programme and are supported in their work placement search by Business School staff. Ultimate responsibility for sourcing and securing the work placement rests with you. Companies may advertise their placements or you may need to make a speculative application. In year 1 placements should be carried out within third sector organisations. In year 2 and 3 placements and consultancy projects can be taken with any public, private or third sector organisation. Due to the placements being short-term it is unlikely that your placement will be paid, however this is dependent on the company. If you undertake your placement in Cornwall you will receive up to 100 in travel expenses. The minimum placement and project length is 70 hours. You can complete your placement over a condensed two weeks or spread out over a few weeks, which is to be agreed between you and the business. 6 10 University of Exeter Business School 11 The BSc Business programme on the University of Exeter s Penryn Campus is unique from any other Business degree in the market. It allows students to gain a more practical approach to business, undertaking various placements as part of the three year degree programme. PLACEMENT MODULES ON THE BSc PROGRAMME PRACTICE AND ANALYSIS This module will run in the Spring term of year 1. It will enable you to present your learning and yourself in the best possible light to attract employers interest. This introductory module to Business Practice will focus on the third sectors. It will explain how in a mixed economy this sector plays a vital role in innovation and service delivery, while at the same time enabling you to gain experience in fields you might not have traditionally considered for future employment. The insight and learning gained through this module will prove highly valuable to you as you progress throughout your undergraduate and post-graduation careers. Unique to all Business School students is the Your Employability Skills (YES!) module. There are 14 interactive lessons in this online module, covering a range of employability skills from what job would suit me?, researching careers, writing your CV, right through to interviews, assessment centres, professionalism in the workplace and creating digital profiles on social media websites. Each lesson has been specifically tailored toward Business School students. These lessons are non-credit bearing extra-curricular activities. However, each lesson has a quiz at the end and if you score 80% or above it will be recorded as a completed employability activity on your University of Exeter Exeter Award profile. Jess Barber BA AND MANAGEMENT WITH MARKETING WITH INDUSTRIAL EXPERIENCE PLACEMENT: THE WALT DISNEY COMPANY, FRANCHISE MARKETING INTERN GRADUATE POSITION: RECRUITMENT CONSULTANT, PAGEGROUP PRACTICE PRACTICE-BASED CONSULTANCY PROJECT This module will run in the second year. You will have the opportunity to understand more clearly how a charity, business or third sector organisation operates, and become involved in the day-to-day management of a particular project. You will also have the opportunity to reflect on your own learning. This in turn should give you the confidence in your own workplace skills and a clearer idea of your strengths and weaknesses to better equip you for full-time employment. It will also help provide you with experiences that you can articulate at the job interview stage. This module will run in the Autumn term of the final year. The aim of this module is to give you the opportunity to practice the skills you will learn in the Project Management Module in year two and to apply the learning you will assimilate through both the Business Practice modules undertaken in years 1 and 2. Practice-based consultancy enables you to go into a business, charity or third sector organisation. You will work with the managers/owners in order to help them with a live project and supply them with an academically informed solution to a real and practice-based problem.
