1 Performance Development Review Role Profile Position: Principal Support Analyst: Desktop Team Manager Rank/Grade: PO 2/3 Responsible To: Responsible For: Location: Computer Manager Senior Support Analysts & Support Analysts K ICT Role Purpose: To support end user applications and ensure the efficient operation of designated computer systems across the South Wales Police force area. Post-holders will be working with legacy systems and state-of-the-art technologies. Force Designated System Desktop Core Technologies Major Tasks: (Please refer to guidance notes) 1. To assume responsibility for all aspects of efficient service delivery for nominated systems including system installation, configuration, tuning, capacity planning, backup, recovery, security and problem resolution. 2. To possess and maintain an operating capability for designated Force Computer systems. 3. To have a good knowledge of various hardware / peripherals, software and communications equipment on the designated systems. 4. To test, install, upgrade, commission and carry out fault diagnosis work on hardware, software, network and communications equipment. 5. To provide appropriate support and education to Force project teams. 6. To attend technical briefings / seminars in and out of force when applicable. 7. To analyze the technical performance of the designated systems.

2 8. To produce / maintain an up to date system technical user guide for the designated systems. 9. To test, install, upgrade, commission and carry out fault diagnosis work on hardware, software, network and communications equipment. 10. To provide appropriate support and education to Force project teams. 11. A degree of flexibility is important as you will be required to work outside normal hours occasionally 12. To participate in an out-of-hours standby cover rota on a regular basis, if required. 13. To ensure the work meets quality standards in relation to internal and external clients of the department. 14. To ensure that practices and procedures comply with South Wales Police Equal Opportunities Policy. Attainments: 1. To be fully conversant with current NT Workstation client technology. 2. To be fully conversant with the Microsoft BackOffice products. 3. To be conversant with Windows NT Server technology 4. To be fully conversant with the TCP/IP protocols. 5. To be fully conversant with Compaq hardware. 6. To be conversant with Windows 2000/XP 7. To be conversant with Oracle & SQL Server RDBMS. Note: You may be required to perform other duties which are not necessarily specified on the role profile, but are commensurate with the responsibilities of the role holder. Information Management Technology and Equipment 1073 Develop a recovery plan for technical systems and services Provide a plan to allow for the continuation and recovery of a primary business function following the loss of service as a result of a major incident Manage information security Manage the integrity of Information Systems by reviewing and developing relevant strategies and providing advice on Information security matters Design and develop technical systems or equipment Design and develop technical systems or equipment that meet user requirements and conform to organisational standards 1144 Manage the implementation of technical systems Manage the implementation of technical systems in accordance with agreed plans and standards Develop user specifications Identify user requirements and develop specifications for technical systems in co-operation with the customer and within organisational restraints. Administrative Support Managing the Organisation Input, retrieve and present data using a computer. Enter information correctly using an appropriate computer system, in accordance with Force policy. Retrieve and present information in a suitable format and supply to relevant personnel Implement change plans Ensure adequate communication of proposed changes, implement the change plan effectively, and encourage involvement of all individuals affected by the changes.
