THE ORGANIZATION Founded in 1928, Kanuga is a deeply spiritual place with special meaning to multiple generations. As a family retreat destination, conference location and summer camp venue, it is a place where hearts, minds and bodies are nurtured in Christian community.

3 Page 3 of 7 The Kanuga campus spans 1400 acres and includes three lakes, 22 miles of hiking trails and 147 comfortably rustic buildings. Welcoming more than 170 groups and 25,000 visitors annually, Kanuga prides itself as a place where different perspectives can be explored in a safe and respectful environment. Given this well-earned reputation, Kanuga serves as host to a wide variety of secular and broadly ecumenical events and provides guests with both the professional resources and the inspirational setting necessary to ensure successful and productive gatherings. Kanuga serves families during eleven guest week periods annually. Successive generations of families have enjoyed and continue to cherish the setting, and characterize their time at Kanuga as restorative and reflective. Many describe the campus as a holy place. The organization has a diverse full-time staff of 120 (which grows to 250 during the summer months). A current annual budget of $8 million is anchored by a $9 million endowment that is part of a total asset base of $20 million. Support for Kanuga is strong. The organization enjoys a donor base of more than 1000 individuals who collectively have contributed more than $1 million annually for over 30 years and the full board participates in annual giving. Kanuga has made significant strides in modernizing the campus and continues to be a model steward of the environment. These improvements include conversion of the facilities from propane to natural gas, the installation of a solar-thermal system on 11 buildings that heats 1.5 million gallons of water annually, high speed Wi-Fi throughout the 62 room inn and central buildings and the active inclusion of locally grown produce that is supplemented by an organic garden on the grounds. For more information about Kanuga and its history, please go to A significant plan for additional improvements to the campus is underway (renovation of the Inn commenced in November and is expected to conclude before June 2016) and is being supported by a $15 million capital campaign. To date, phase one of the campaign is at 85% of its goal and has enjoyed support from a broad donor community. Due in large part to the personal connection to Kanuga by generations of Episcopalians and its role as a place of peace, exchange and spiritual reflection, the capital campaign is moving forward with momentum and purpose.
