2 POSITION PURPOSE The purpose of this role is to lead the on-going content design and maintenance of the new Practice Centre website and perform tasks within the Oranga Tamariki digital ecosystem as required. Digital engagement will reflect the aims of Oranga Tamariki: always considering children first and foremost enabling best practice growing trusted relationships high aspirations for all children, particularly Māori. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES Key Result area Key Accountabilities Engagement - Work closely with the Office of the Chief Social Worker to develop, improve and maintain web content that resonates with users - Work with Communications & Engagement team colleagues to identify opportunities across the Oranga Tamariki digital ecosystem - Be the user advocate - Keep abreast of the changing world of digital Strategy and channel development - Ensure channels remain dynamic and evolving - Anticipate changes in audience and business needs - Provide assessment, reporting and analysis to inform change - Ensure the Practice Centre supports the Oranga Tamariki digital ecosystem and aligns with the strategic intent - Ensure channels are Web Standards compliant and meet audience accessibility requirements Leadership - Champion consistent, user-centred web experiences that meet the audience s needs - Advise and educate subject matter experts ensuring the online style guide, web standards and workflow processes are upheld - Communicate the principles of good content design to others across the organisation - Mentor the content designer in your immediate team - Manage the workflow of the content designer and yourself Content design - Use evidence and best practice to understand audience needs - identify gaps, overlap etc - Repurpose complex content from subject matter experts - Design content across multiple types video, infographics, podcasts etc - Design, edit, peer-review, load, publish and test web content Position Description Lead Content Designer 2

3 Key Result area Key Accountabilities - Use plain language that s readable and engages the user - Ensure content is easy to find and use - Apply best practice content management - Optimise web content using available metrics, eg user research, site reports, search terms and analytics - Facilitate user testing - Follow business approval processes that ensure content is published quickly and efficiently - Manage and monitor the use of terms for external and internal search to shape content changes Being part of the Oranga Tamariki team - Actively and positively participate as a member of the team - Proactively look for opportunities to improve Oranga Tamariki operations - From time to time, you may be required to perform other reasonable duties as requested by your manager - Comply with and support all health and safety policies, guidelines and initiatives - Ensure all incidents, injuries and near misses are reported into our H&S reporting tool - Comply with all legislative and regulatory requirements, and report any breaches as soon as they become known - Adhere to all Oranga Tamariki procedures, policies, guidelines, and standards of integrity and conduct - Commitment to the Treaty of Waitangi and respect and incorporate these into your work. 4 KEY RELATIONSHIPS Internal - Office of the Chief Social Worker - Social Workers - Communications and Engagement Team - All Oranga Tamariki business groups - Other Oranga Tamariki Staff External - Oranga Tamariki partners/providers NGOs, iwi, commercial entities - The social sector - Government agencies - Suppliers and vendors QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE Qualifications - A tertiary qualification in a related field (e.g. Communications, Journalism, or Creative Writing) is preferred, supported by industry experience of 5-8+ years. Experience - An extensive track record writing for the web in a government context and creating content to convey complex topics - Proven ability to apply digital content management practices and NZ Government Web Standards - Be able to show examples of user-centred content design - Be able to show examples of using metrics and user feedback to define/refine content - Knowledge of the issues for users such as the disabled, ESOL and low literacy users - Proven experience managing internal and external relationships including subject matter experts - Proven experience in providing evidence based advice - Previous work in a high pressure environment Skills - Excellent web writing with the ability to simplify complex language and descriptions - An understanding of information architecture - to ensure new content fits within the site structure and suits the mental models of the users - Excellent communication, collaboration and relationship management skills, including the ability to influence content development and curation - Technical skills in HTML to diagnose presentation or functional gaps - Technical skills in CMS (preferably Common Web Platform) to Position Description Lead Content Designer 4

5 sufficiently load, edit, link and publish content - Creation of accessible PDF documents - High proficiency with online tools such as Google Analytics and preferably (but not essential) GatherContent. - Works independently and effectively - Sound risk assessment and risk mitigation skills - Attention to detail - A sense of humour - Love of cake Position Description Lead Content Designer 5
