ABOUT THE JOB The UFA is looking for a self-motivated individual to provide administrative support to the hazardous materials program within the Fire Prevention Division. This position requires significant ability to proofread written documents and to review and understand written fire code standards. This position answers telephone calls pertaining to fire code and hazardous materials related questions, ABOUT THE AREA Salt Lake County, with a population of nearly 1.2 million, is located in Utah s thriving capital. It is located in Northern Utah and is known for its beautiful, picturesque landscape. 3 ABOUT UNIFIED FIRE AUTHORITY Unified Fire Authority is Utah s largest fire agency, serving over 403,000 residents in the cities of: Alta Taylorsville Cottonwood Heights Emigration Township Eagle Mountain Magna Township Herriman Kearns Township Holladay Copperton Township Midvale White City Township Riverton Unincorporated areas of Salt Lake County The UFA provides fire, emergency medical and other emergency services to residents and visitors from 24 fire stations and four other facilities including the Salt Lake County Emergency Coordination Center. UFA is the sponsoring agency of Utah Task Force 1, one of 28 FEMA Urban Search and Rescue Teams. 4 JOB SCOPE AND RESPONSIBILITIES The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following duties and responsibilities: Manages the files and renewal process of the Hazardous Materials Program, which includes receiving and accounting for fees and tracking of HazMat inspections. Answers inquiries pertaining to fire code and hazardous materials using established printed fire code interpretations, or forwards such inquiries to area fire inspectors Assists in the management, tracking and administration of the self-inspection program for priority 3 businesses in the district. Acts in as the division's administrative coordinator when needed. Assists in identifications of businesses where hazardous materials are manufactured, used, or sold in quantities exceeding maximum allowable quantities per code. Attends weekly staff meetings Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

5 MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS Valid Driver s License One (1) year of general office support experience or a combination of related education (Business Management or Administration) and experience Knowledge of Utah State fire code DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS Experience working in a fire department's Prevention Section KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES The preferred candidate will have knowledge of standard office procedures as well as of standard business etiquette and procedures, business English grammar and language rules, proper spelling,, office record-keeping, report preparation, and office organization methods and techniques and an extensive knowledge of software programs within the Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Internet Explorer, with the ability to efficiently and effectively learn other computer programs and technology as required. Additionally, the preferred candidate will be skilled in coordinating multiple priorities, personal organization and workload management, performing mathematical calculations quickly and accurately and establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with UFA employees and personnel from other agencies. Lastly, the preferred candidate will have the ability to meet expected deadlines with little direct supervision, while using effective judgment in interpreting or adapting guidelines and protocols to specific cases or problems, promote a high-level of customer service and good public relations and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills with UFA employ-ees, vendors, individuals from other affiliated organizations or the general public, ex-pand basic points of information and create correspondence, reports, and presenta-tions, drive a vehicle to make deliveries, pick up supplies and coordinate work activi-ties, make decisions independently in accordance with established policies with only general instruction or guidance, learn new processes independently with a willingness to invest time to learn and create new systems and processes in order to increase ef-fectiveness and efficiency in the long term and communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, and to express ideas clearly.

6 IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING THIS POSITION The Unified Fire Authority is an independent entity, which operates under a merit system. This is a full-time (40 hours/week) merit position with benefits. Working Environment: Work is performed in a general office environment during routine office hours, Monday through Friday, however after hours and weekend work is possible. Physical and Mental Job Requirements: To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential job functions satisfactorily. This position involves periods of prolonged sitting and use of computer equipment. This position requires the physical and mental capabilities to read information printed on paper and displayed on computer monitors; hear, speak, and communicate verbally using the English language; cognitive thinking and mathematical calculation capabilities; manual dexterity to manipulate standard office equipment, papers, files, and records. This position requires occasional driving and ability to lift up to ten (10) pounds.
