1 Youth Justice Program Manager Job Announcement RYSE creates safe spaces grounded in social justice that build youth power for young people to love, learn, educate, heal and transform lives and communities. Overview of Program Area: With RYSE s mission statement as its mandate, the Education and Justice Department (EJD) was established to directly address inequities within three systems that at various points intersect and all too often have a disproportionate negative impact on youth of color. EJD offers onsite and offsite programming that strengthens young people s ability to successfully navigate the education, economic and juvenile justice systems and empowers them to be advocates for change. Using a trauma informed and healing approach, we push for systemic transformation, alternatives to incarceration, promote high school graduation, college and career readiness, success and financial stability and encourage young people to be active participants and agents in their own liberation. Job Summary: Under the supervision and support of the Director of Education and Justice, the Youth Justice Program Manager supports in developing RYSE s youth justice programs, policy priorities and advocacy strategy, builds grassroots campaigns, and supports other projects as needed. Additionally, the YJ Program Manager will work with staff and partners to monitor the development of justice policies and practices impacting youth and their families at the local, state and national levels, with a focus on local transformation. Major duties include: program management, facilitation, curriculum development and oversight, policy advocacy and cultivating relationships with local organizations/agencies, and case management supervision. Duties include but are not limited to the following: Program Development With supervision from Director of E&J, support YJ staff in creating unique and meaningful programs, trainings, workshops, projects, etc. Support YJ staff in creating and maintaining program work plans Develop and implement curriculum, aligned with RYSE YJ programming, to engage general RYSE membership in justice issues and inform them of their rights Help organize and implement E&J specific events

2 Facilitate onsite E&J team meetings and work with other E&J staff to develop and implement E&J team building activities Help develop strategies for maintaining department organization and cohesion Evaluate the developing needs, interests, and priorities of general members and consolidate information to make key recommendations to the Director of E&J Coalition Building & Policy Advocacy Conduct policy analysis and advocacy that focuses on youth justice issues for youth of color, especially those in Richmond and West County Develop and execute organizing strategies to build a base of youth, adult allies, and community organizations impacted by the criminal system to participate in the Youth Justice Coalition of Contra Costa and move local, state, and national policy initiatives Develop tools, outreach materials to keep youth, coalition members and community allies engaged, develop their political acumen, and develop the leadership of the base Represent RYSE programmatic and policy goals at meetings, conferences, trainings and community events as needed Act as a liaison for RYSE to various allies and organizations, such as faith-based, criminal/youth justice related non-profits, and other youth/family/formerly incarcerated organizations as needed. Facilitate meetings with youth and adult leaders in Richmond and Countywide to develop and coordinate community organizing and advocacy initiatives around RYSE s youth justice policy priorities Create culturally and linguistically appropriate educational materials to engage youth and community members

3 Work with youth leaders to develop their political education and leadership skills including public speaking, story-based narrative analysis, meeting facilitation; and community organizing skills such as outreach, and mobilizing Work closely with the Director of Education and Justice and other relevant RYSE staff to inform staff and community on the organization s role and strategies in local, state and national policies Collaborate closely with local and statewide coalition partners as we develop organizing, policy advocacy, and communications strategies to increase the profile of RYSE youth justice policy priorities Administrative & Documentation Responsibilities Maintain and support E&J staff in maintaining accurate records (detailed case management notes, significant activities, informal interactions) by entering documentation into various electronic systems to satisfy internal and external evaluating requirements Attend partner meetings Meet productivity guidelines of the E&J programming Support E&J director with grant reporting/writing to sustain department resources General Responsibilities Coordinate and facilitate onsite program staff meetings collaboratively with program manager team and other RYSE staff to support work flow and team building activities Support and contribute to the development of strategies that support in maintaining organization cohesion Coordinate and support member outreach efforts

4 Support the creation and distribution of communications on RYSE activities and issues, including material for our website, social media, and newsletters Assist in strategic organizational planning as necessary Complete records and reports to track and assure successful program outcomes. Attend staff and departmental meetings Perform duties, as necessary, as a member of the RYSE team which include mandatory events as outlined in the RYSE yearly calendar Qualifications: A Bachelor s Degree Education, Public Policy, Ethnic Studies, Political Science or related field or at least 5 years experience in youth development, organizing, public policy, or similar field At least 3 years experience entry level program management, including supervision A high-level, strategic understanding of social change and progressive movements backed by direct experience with grassroots efforts Excellent communication and written skills with the ability to articulate messages to different audiences A track record of developing and maintaining strong working relationships with and among a diverse group of stakeholders Experience developing curriculum Must be willing and able to work evenings and some weekends as required by special RYSE programming and events Must have a general knowledge of Word and Excel Strong written and oral communications skills

This position requires a moderate amount of travel throughout the county and statewide Ideal candidate will have: Passion for social justice Demonstrated cultural competence with respect to race, ethnicity, and socio-economic status Ability to support, role model, and reinforce positive organizational culture Experience building and maintaining relationships and partnerships with community organizations and local small business and corporations Strong organizational and project management skills with ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast paced environment Detail-oriented, with strong ability to follow-through A demonstrated commitment to meeting a high bar and a history of getting things done even in the face of obstacles Past successes designing and leading policy advocacy and/or campaign initiatives on a local, state and/or national level Experience managing multiple projects and ability to work flexible hours and travel Reliable transportation Like to have fun and have a good sense of humor Personnel : Exempt Type : 1.0 FTE, (40) hours per week position. Youth development, criminal justice, policy advocacy, coalition building, non-profit Hours: Flexible Shifts, Monday Friday from 9:00AM - 8:00PM.

6 Salary: $46,000 to $55,000, depending on experience. The position is exempt and not subject to overtime pay.
