Reporting To: Job Purpose: The Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) is a research centre operating within Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs) 4-7, taking academic research and maturing it to the point where it can be exploited by industry. The centre is currently focused on a number of individual but linked research themes. 2 Duties & Responsibilities: The MTC seeks an experienced Manufacturing Consultancy business development manager to join its Manufacturing Operational Efficiency (MOE).This is a unique opportunity to join a fast growing organisation, adding value to MTC members and clients in a) conventional manufacturing operational efficiency improvement projects (Lean, Six Sigma, Kaisen etc) including factory process modelling b) working with companies on their transition journey from proven R&D to full scale production environments for new manufacturing technologies such as net shape manufacturing, laser technologies, robotics and other automation etc c) new factory layout and process modelling d) manufacturing change management and human factor issues MTC s MOE value proposition is highly differentiated from conventional manufacturing consultancies because of our knowledge of new manufacturing technologies such as lasers, intelligent automation, 3D printing / net shape manufacturing, and manufacturing simulation (including a virtual reality cave) which are heralding the start of a global 4 th Industrial Revolution. The business development role includes Proactively probing for MOE work both within MTC s c100 members and also none members and clients. Sales pipeline development across the journey from opportunity identification, validation, qualification and then working with MOE consulting staff to write proposals and close opportunities. Developing and execute business development campaigns to both OEMs and Mid- sized companies based on our MOE value proposition and MTC Manufacturing Accelerators (short focused 10k to 40k) door opening work packages. Typical assignments for our MOE practice include : Manufacturing Operational Efficiency projects e.g. 1) Manufacturing process improvements 2) Manufacturing value stream mapping Job Description (V1.0) Page 2 of 5

3 3) Manufacturing cost reduction 4) New product innovation and manufacturing introduction Manufacturing technology transition into production e.g. 1) Assessing new manufacturing cell options 2) Exploring new cell implications on the wider factory 3) Acquire / installing new cell technology, processes and people into factory 4) Transition cell & embed/interface into Target Factory Operating Model 5) Ramp up to full production Other Examples e.g. 1) Factory of the Future layout design and set ups 2) Development of target factory operating models 3) Manufacturing change management and human factors Candidate Specification: Key Deliverables: Job Description (V1.0) Page 3 of 5

4 Person Specification Essential Desirable Competencies / Behaviours Good Manufacturing, Production or Engineering degree, possibly with an MBA Knowledge of : Business development techniques and methodologies Lean tools Value stream mapping Manufacturing and production benchmarking Production management, engineering tools and techniques Manufacturing change management and human factors Microsoft Powerpoint, Excel, Word and Project package skills Project Management Knowledge of the following would be advantageous Manufacturing and process simulation tools eg Discrete Event Simulation Manufacturing systems such as MES Financial and supply chain modelling Factory automation and robotics Technical Skills and Knowledge Articulate, with excellent personal presentation, written and oral communication skills. Proven deal closing skills Strong and empathic customer interpersonal skills. A consulting business development hunter not an account managemnt farmer. 5 Financially literate and numerate Deal structuring and negotiation experience Structured approach to sales cycle management Comfortable in working at manufacturing executive level in OEMs/MidCaps Confident and empathic leadership skills, managerial and consulting gravitas. Driven but also a team player Self starter and completer finisher Coventry based, but prepared to travel throughout the UK Driving licence required. UK passport holder given possible MOD work.
