1 Job Description General Details Job Title: Faculty/School/Service: Normal Workbase: Tenure: Hours/FT: Head of Communications (MPR16/13) Marketing and PR Stoke Campus Permanent Full Time, 1.0fte Grade/Salary: Grade 9 Date Prepared: July 2017 Job Purpose To oversee the external and internal communications strategy of Staffordshire University, to capture the attention of the broad audience of stakeholders to increase the share of voice and reputation of the University regionally, nationally and globally. Relationships Reporting to: Responsible for: Director of Marketing and PR PR & vents Team Main Activities Creating annual campaigns for local, regional and national, educational & business media channels that reflect the University strategy and Schools as well as Schools plans. Overseeing the corporate communication portfolio of materials including publications, newsletters and digital platforms. Overseeing an annual corporate public engagement programme both of and on campus to strengthen our reputation across our stakeholders including staff and students To establish a Government relations and H agenda facing function, working with SLT and xecutive to deliver public affairs activity to raise awareness of the University. To develop and promote the University s research and academic expertise profile amongst consumer and trade influencers to raise the University s reputation and to ensure the University is the go-to regional university for comment and provide expert opinion.

2 Responsible for creating communication plans for Board, xecutive and SLT, staff and students prior to engagement with the media and external and internal stakeholders. Responsible for delivering the internal communications strategy across all platforms, working with HR, Finance and SLT to create a two-way, productive working environment to improve employee engagement scores. Responsible for delivering the student communications strategy across all platforms, working SaAS, Students Union and Schools to create a two-way, collaborative environment improving and impacting the student experience. To be the key department lead in Crisis and ssues PR Management. Supporting nternational Office, Partnerships and mployer Partnerships in Communication planning and supporting the creation of a Communications network across the University s stakeholders, partnerships and agents Oversee the University s investment in sponsorship and brand alignment activity in liaison with mployer Partnerships. Providing relevant media analysis and communication campaign reporting to assess impact of activity for both internal and external stakeholders and against the University s KPs. Oversee the University s submissions to H and ndustry awards. Working closely with the Head of Marketing to ensure effective delivery of PR content through all digital platforms Responsible for the management of departmental budgets and business planning, ensuring n monthly cost centre reports and quarterly forecast and budget planning. Management of tenders and contracts of external PR and event resource as and when necessary. To undertake any other reasonable duties as determined by the Director of Marketing & PR Special Conditions To be committed to working with the University to further improve the carbon footprint/environmental issues.
