1 City of Lake Mary Position Vacancy Announcement POSITION TITLE: Building Inspector FLSA Status: Non-exempt SALARY: Hiring Range - $42, $78, (DOQ) DEPARTMENT: Community Development Building Division MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma, GED or equivalent certificate of competency. Five (5) years experience in the building and construction trades or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Must be able to complete ICS 100 and ICS 700 within six (6) months of hire. Minimum of 1 and 2 family dwelling inspector by the State of Florida Building Code Administrators and Inspectors Board or two of the following licenses: commercial building, plumbing, electrical or mechanical inspector. Qualified applicants may be eligible for incentive pay for certifications/licensure held with the State of Florida, above the minimum license requirements. Valid Florida Driver's License with an acceptable driving record. Knowledge of the City of Lake Mary including streets and geography. Considerable knowledge of The Florida Building Code and local building and zoning ordinances. Knowledge of modern practices in building, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing construction and inspection techniques. Knowledge of permitting and licensing procedures and processes. Knowledge of and ability to make structural and physical calculations. Ability to read and interpret, construction plans, specifications, and other drawings and maintain an effective working relationship with contractors and the general public. Ability to answer questions and/or complaints regarding construction requirements. Ability to meet and deal effectively with the public and establish and maintain professional relationships with the general public, fellow employees, and outside professional associates. Ability to fairly and impartially interpret and enforce the appropriate City and State codes. Ability to foster a team environment by supporting cohesive work relationships and providing effective problem resolution. Ability to work independently in carrying out assignments to completion. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions, giving close attention to detail and accuracy.

2 Must be able to read, write and communicate in English. Ability to maintain a variety of construction related records. Ability to access, input, and retrieve information from a computer. Ability and skill in the operation of standard office equipment including but not limited to a document scanner and a personal computer using program applications appropriate to assigned duties. Ability to physically perform inspections. 3 General Description: This is responsible work requiring considerable initiative and independent judgment in conducting technical field inspections to ensure compliance with City and State building construction codes as they pertain to structures and property within the City of Lake Mary. Duties are performed under the supervision of the Building Official and performance is evaluated by results achieved. Essential Job Functions: Inspects residential, commercial, industrial, and other structures and/or sites during and after construction for compliance with approved plans and specifications with State and City codes and ordinances. Identifies code violations, issues correction notices, and stop work orders. Reads and interprets construction drawings and construction codes. Prepares special reports and maintains activity record. Assists owners, builders, and developers with construction code requirements. Consults with contractors and other interested parties regarding violations, plan deviations, and acceptable correction methods. Performs research and retrieval of records. Assists in the preparation and maintenance of department records. Provides document scanning for permits and building plans. Follows safe working practices and has a working knowledge of safety practices and procedures in accordance with the City s Safety Plan. This position serves an essential role in the City s disaster preparation and/or disaster recovery efforts, as may be designated by the City s Emergency Manager. Performs other related duties as required and other such work as may be assigned.
