2 2 An Operations/Departmental Manager manages teams and/or projects and is responsible for creating and achieving specific goals and objectives within the structure of an organisation s strategy. They are usually accountable to a more senior manager or business owner, and are key components in talent management, coaching and mentoring more junior members of staff, as well as taking responsibility for managing change, resources and the financial management of their department. Working in the private, public or third sector and in all sizes of organisation, specific responsibilities and job titles will vary, but the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed are consistent. The Level 5 course is suitable for individuals who are currently in a managerial role, or who are aspiring to maximise their potential as

3 3 ILM Level 5 Diploma for Managers and Leaders - aligns with the Level 5 Standard for Operations or Departmental Manager mid-level managers. Typical roles of participants include: Middle Manager, Operations Manager, Regional Manager, Divisional Manager, Store Manager, Head of Department and a variety of specialist managers. The aim of this Level 5 Management Programme is to give participants the tools to develop industry recognised management knowledge, skills and behaviours which will enable them to achieve the expected professional standard and gain a professional management qualification. The programme offers a blended executive-level learning experience, which maximises experiential learning; tutoring and online training are paired with a work-based improvement project, designed to suit the participant s specific role, to deliver practical results both for participants and for their organisations.

5 5 The Behaviour Journey for Lasting Change To enable successful transition through these development stages a range of interventions, from a variety of sources, need to be deployed in combination. The organisation s messages, systems and processes will be critical to success, but the single most crucial influence is the learner s Line Manager. 7 7 Managing change Financial and resource management Talent management Coaching and mentoring Duration Typically, this programme will take 24 months, but timeframes are flexible depending on the employer and/or the participants ability to be successful on the programme. Participants will normally attend a one-day workshop every other month, will have one day of tutorial support every other month and, on average, will be involved in work-place learning activity for one hour per day during normal working hours. 8 8 Study mode Our guided teaching is delivered through a mix of live webinars delivered by an experienced tutor, and 24/7 access to online materials. The course includes online teaching sessions with face-to-face inductions and masterclasses. Participants are also able to take part in live discussion with fellow learners during live webinars and via course forums. You will be involved in: Ten knowledge modules exploring in-depth leadership theory and fundamentals, through a combination of online learning and practical classroom workshops On-programme assignments for the ILM diploma A work-based portfolio and workplace project showcasing how you ve applied the skills you ve learnt in the workplace An End Point Assessment in the last 2-3 months of the programme consisting of a presentation and Q&A session, an interview, test and a discussion relating to your CPD activity Assessment The on-programme assessment ensures the participant is making good progress towards achieving competency in the Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours of an Operations/Departmental Manager. Upon successful completion the participant will gain a recognised Level 5 Diploma qualification.

10 10 Support Both the participant and employer will be supported by a team of Programme Advisors and Skills Coaches who will ensure the participant completes the Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours required, and is ready to sit the final assessment (End Point Assessment). Qualification A Level 5 Diploma qualification (equivalent to HND or foundation degree level) and on completion, registration as an Associate member with the Institute of Leadership and Management is available, to support professional career development and progression. Participants without level 2 English and Maths will need to achieve this level prior to taking the End Point Assessment. Costs Levy tax can be used to cover full programme costs.
