F o o d & Perishables The Port of Zeebrugge is an important distribution port for food products such as fresh fruit, fruit juices, vegetables, potatoes, coffee, meat, fish and dairy products. In recent years, the Port of Zeebrugge has developed into a genuine European food hub. As a clean coastal port, the Port of Zeebrugge is pollution free, ideal for precious cargo such as food products. Fresh fruit is handled by a dedicated fruit terminal, the Belgian New Fruit Wharf. The transportation of food products with reefer containers is a growing trend.

4 P r o j e c t & Heav y Lift The loading and unloading of oversized or heavy cargo is available on many of the Port of Zeebrugge s breakbulk, RORO and container terminals. All of them possess the necessary equipment to handle and transport large items such as generators, offshore wind industry components, boilers, turbines, reactors, towers, heaters, railway wagons, boats or military equipment. The guaranteed frequency of departures at both the short-sea and deep-sea RORO terminals enables the reliable shipment of project and heavy lift cargo using low, flatbed trailers that are towed on board by powerful tug masters. Lashing and securing is performed by a highly-skilled and experienced labour force. Moreover, the use of estuary barges allows cargo to reach inland waterway destinations as far away as Duisburg.
