Every component of our products offers the highest standard of durable construction, quality materials and long term value to meet your loading dock needs as effectively as possible. Dynalon Fairborn offers fabrics in a wide range of colors and performance levels. To ensure maximum durability, Fairborn created Dynalon, the first superior performance fabric for dock seals and shelters. Dynalon meets or exceeds the most demanding requirements and has proven to out-perform any fabric in today's dock shelter market. Dyna-Armor Our exclusive, overlapping fabric pleats are positioned at critical wear areas to provide extra protection. Foam Fairborn developed a polyurethane foam to properly compress, while conforming to the irregularities of the vehicle body. Superior recovery characteristics ensure the foam's return to it's original shape and size. Wood Frame Unit frames are select dimensional lumber of the highest grade, pressure treated and kiln dried before and after treating. (Steel frames are optional.) Guide Stripe Side members include highly visible yellow stripes to facilitate accurate truck positioning. Fairborn developed a superior Urethane Finish to ensure greater stripe durability while maintaining a clean appearance. Translucent Panels The dock shelter's top and side members incorporate translucent fiberglass to permit natural light penetration to the loading dock area. For maximum strength all panels are secured to each frame with stainless steel screws and self sealing washers. Flexible Stays Dock shelters include 3M Scotchply Stays to ensure the top and side curtains firmly hug the truck body. Chemical Weld All dock seal foam is chemically bonded to the entire contact area of the frame to ensure maximum structural integrity. Air Exhaust Each foam pad is equipped with properly sized outlets to allow for free air escape during compression while prohibiting moisture infiltration. Thread All stitching is performed by professional seamstresses utilizing bonded, high tensile, multi-cord polyester thread. The sewn construction provides for lockstitch, proper tension, and backtack sewing techniques throughout. 2 DYNA-ARMOR is a registered trademark of FAIRBORN USA INC.

3 Dock seal and dock shelter's benefits and features /FAI BuyLine 4642 Wood Frame Translucent Panel Aluminum Trim Scotchply Stay Neoprene Cord Side Curtain Cover Material Foam Wood Frame Chemical Weld Bottom Reinforcement Guide Stripe Guide Stripe Dock Shelters... Dock shelters accommodate the widest range of truck and building variations while yielding unobstructed accessibility to the interior of the vehicle. The shelter uses flexible fabric curtains to hug the top and sides of the truck body upon entering, closing off any air gap between the vehicle and the building. For a snug fit, Scotchply * stays are encased into all faces of the cover fabric, while the edges of each curtain are fitted with a sewn-in, compressible neoprene cord to conform to the vehicle body irregularities. Foam bottom pads prevent air infiltration at the lower corners, and special wind straps keep the head curtain in place. We even use translucent fiberglass outer panels to permit natural light penetration to save on lighting bills! Fairborn shelters include heavy-duty steel channel guards to mount directly on the building to prevent damage from misaligned trucks. In addition, all shelters are fitted with polished aluminum trim and raked headers to assure adequate drainage while preventing water damage to the dock area. Our seals and shelters also incorporate high visibility safety-yellow guide stripes to facilitate accurate truck positioning. Dock Shelter Dock Seal Dock Seals... The basic dock seal is most effective when servicing uniform vehicles at a dock having common parameters. The vehicle positioned at the dock compresses the resilient foam pads to create an airtight seal at the dock opening. Fairborn dock seals are available in a variety of series to accommodate various applications. An extensive selection of options allows each series to be further tailor fit to effectively service numerous types and sizes of vehicles at a wide range of openings. Energy Conservation, Security, and Loading Dock Safety Fairborn dock seals and shelters save energy dollars while providing protection to the loading dock area during material handling operations. Every time a loading door is opened to gain access to a trailer, there's a transfer of inside and outside air that causes an energy loss. An open, unsealed 8' x 8' loading door can cost more than $2,000 a year per door in heating losses and up to $1,600 a year per door in air conditioning losses.** When a vehicle is positioned at the dock, a well designed dock seal or shelter will eliminate the gap between the facility and the vehicle body. This separation of interior and exterior environments allows for a safe loading dock area while ensuring employee comfort and efficiency. The barrier that Fairborn dock seals and shelters provide regulates the facility's atmosphere to be free from air-borne contaminants, insects, and foul weather; while enhancing building security. *Trademark of 3M Company **Research reported by Plant Engineering, May

4 The toughest fabric you could put between a dock and a truck... Dynalon. What s so special about Dynalon? Dynalon is a superior performance fabric that Fairborn created specifically for the demands of dock seals and shelters. It was developed after a careful examination of what caused other fabrics to tear and become damaged from abrasion. We performed extensive research to identify the points where damage was most likely to occur. Our studies proved that the exposed surfaces of a fabric were considerably more vulnerable to damage than interior surfaces, due to their increased exposure to abrasive contact. Further, we found that tearing and abrasion were each dependent upon separate and distinct fabric qualities. In general, the base fabric used determined the materials overall resistance to tearing, while the coating was responsible for the fabric s abrasion and wear resistance. 85% Exterior Coating Heavy Woven Base Fabric 15% Interior Coating When you put a seal or shelter between a loading dock and a truck, you know it s going to take a lot of abuse. From the inside, it s getting hit by pallets and fork lifts. From the outside it s getting abused by everything from rough weather to sharp truck edges and projections. So it s no wonder that before long, most dock seals and shelters tend to show a little wear and tear. To remedy this situation, you basically have two choices. You can buy a replacement unit every few years, or you can buy a Fairborn dock seal or shelter made of Dynalon, the exclusive fabric that s built to take more abuse and last longer than any other seal or shelter fabric now available. Dynalon s unique combination of features provides superior resistance to tears and abrasion while standing up to every kind of weather, from August s simmering heat to December s freezing rain. Dynalon s extraordinary life expectancy is attributed in part to these excellent tear and abrasion resistance properties. With this knowledge at hand, we developed Dynalon to provide maximum protection from each type of damage. To achieve this, we started with the strongest base fabric we could find, to prevent tearing, then coated it with an exclusive compound in a unique way to guarantee superior wearability. We apply 85% of the Dynalon coating on the exposed surfaces, where it s needed most, and 15% on the interior surfaces. To ensure an optimal bond between the coating and the base fabric we utilize a state of the art coating technique in conjunction with a revolutionary tie-coat system. By contrast, other seal and shelter fabrics use a 50/50 coating, putting more coating than needed on the interior surfaces and not enough on the exterior. Additionally, the base fabric incorporated in the construction of Dynalon has a tear strength far greater than any material utilized in today s dock seal or shelter market. 4 DYNALON is a registered trademark of FAIRBORN USA INC.

5 /FAI BuyLine 4642 How does Dynalon compare to the fabric I m using now? When put to the test of federally certified laboratories, plus a decade of in-field use, Fairborn s Dynalon outperformed every other popular seal and shelter fabric now being used, regardless of the other fabric s weight. Using a Federal test specification that is accepted industry wide (Federal Standard 191), Fairborn undertook a comparison between Dynalon and Dynaflex to the other fabrics typically used in the manufacture of dock seals and shelters. We isolated the four characteristics that best represent a fabric s overall strength, abrasion resistance and weatherability, and confirmed the results shown in the chart below. As you can see, Dynalon was far and away the winner on every important measure. It offers 5 times greater resistance to tearing and up to 20 times more resistance to abrasion. So fabric weight doesn t really measure fabric strength? Absolutely not! That s why you should insist on a material performance standard, not just a fabric weight, when you specify your building s dock seals and shelters. Here s how a performance based specification would be written: FABRIC: Dock seal or shelter shall incorporate a Dynalon cover having the characteristics listed below. All bidders must submit certified test results with bid. The manufacturer shall state the characteristics of the fabric offered and that all tests are done in accordance with Federal Standard 191 and the specific method as listed below. Wear characteristics of any substitute material shall meet or exceed performance specifications. You now have the means to specify a material that possesses the strength, durability and weather-ability you require, with a technical specification based upon a defensible Federal Standard. Specifying the exact tongue tear, abrasion resistance, grab tensile strength and cold test, per Federal Standard 191, guarantees that you or your customers will get the very best material available. Dynalon. OK But how much does it cost? Since Dynalon can last up to eight times longer than traditional fabrics, you d probably expect Fairborn s dock seals and shelters to be expensive. But in fact, a Fairborn unit constructed of Dynalon, costs about the same as other dock seals or shelters made with fabrics having substantially less property values. When you consider how much longer a Fairborn seal or shelter will last before you ll ever need to replace it, a Fairborn unit will actually end up costing far, far less.
