2 1 Introduction 1.1 Purpose Clarify and define packaging and labelling requirements to Mexico suppliers 1.2 Scope This standard applies to direct material items shipped to Mexico. It applies to all suppliers. 1.3 Expectation Mexico expects supplier s support and proactive participation to assure that shipments arrive without damages and assure the quality of all products. Every deviation to these standards has to be authorized by Mexico. 1.4 Shipping instruction Beside the Packaging & Labelling Standards the supplier has to follow the Mexico s Shipping instructions which is available at Delivery and Performance rating The supplier s conformance to this standard is evaluated in the monthly delivery and performance rating. 3 2 Supplier Responsibility 2.1 The supplier is responsible for the packaging of direct materials to assure their proper conditions and quality upon delivery to Mexico. Parts must arrive at Mexico without damage, corrosion or contamination. Normal handling by the transportation company has to be considered. 2.2 Packaging shall be included in the supplier s FMEA, Quality plan and PPAP. 2.3 Standard packaging The supplier has to use standardized quantities for each shipment. Mixed Loads are not allowed without special authorization. 2.4 Modification All packaging modifications to already approved packaging require authorization through an updated Packaging data sheet (see point 6). 2.5 First shipment A sample shipment is required and has to be communicated with anticipation. 2.6 Trace ability To assure the trace ability Mexico uses the invoice number as Lot number for all goods of one special delivery. It is the supplier s responsibility to trace their internal Lot numbers to the invoice number. Packaging & Labeling Standards Mexico V2.1 Page 3 of 9

4 3 Packaging requirements 3.1 Wooden-Pallets Pallets have to be in accordance to the ISPM15 (IPPC-pallets). In the case that the supplier shipped with uncertified pallets the costs for changing and fumigate the pallets will be charged to the supplier (100 USD each pallet). An importation to Mexico can be denied according to Mexican law and the return of the whole shipment (container load) could happen. Pallets shall be 4-way entry. Accepted Dimensions: Face Depth Height (max.) 1200mm 800mm 1000mm European standard 1200mm 1000mm 1000mm NAFTA standard Height Restrictions includes pallet No material shall extend over the pallet edge. 3.2 Strapping Each pallet has to be strapped properly. Polyester strapping is preferred. 3.3 Corrugated Specifications Corrugated packaging material must have the strength to adequately withstand transportation and handling rigors from the supplier s dock to Mexico s receiving dock. Corrugated packaging must have the strength to support multiple stacking of unit pallet loads (in other case this has to be addressed to Mexico and must have corresponding warning on the pallet: DO NOT STACK, NICHT STAPELN, NO ESTIBAR). Corrugated material must have adequate ECT or burst test strength to protect the product. In the case that the goods are transported by sea freight the packaging is exposed to seawater, showers, fogs etc. The packaging must be waterproof. 3.4 Weight limitation Max. shipping pack (one pallet) = 750 kg Max. sub pack: <13 kg Packaging & Labeling Standards Mexico V2.1 Page 4 of 9

5 3.5 Smallest packing unit Smallest packing unit has to be identified with corresponding Part number and lot number. Especially plastic bags have to be identified. 3.6 Kanban-box sizes Mexico is using a Kanban-system internally and is working with special Kanban-racks and plastic Kanban boxes. To assure that the supplier s cardboard box fit in one of the three different sizes please use sizes close to these dimensions (W x L x H): Large size: 400mm x 540mm x 280mm Medium size: 270mm x 380mm x 180mm Small size: 170mm x 25mm x 13mm Packaging & Labeling Standards Mexico V2.1 Page 5 of 9

7 5 Labelling requirements 5.1 The presence and the quality of the labels are essential. Bar code labels are required and used to eliminate opportunity of error. Errors made because of label deficiency are serious in nature. Bar code print quality must pass verification per ANSI guideline. Labels should be according the specifications as detailed and illustrated in the Automotive Industry Action Group s publication Shipping/Parts Identification Label Standard ( 5.2 General label specifications (see below bar code label for shipping) Label Size: 152mm wide and 101,5mm height Label Quantity: Minimum 2 labels per shipping pack (pallet) on 2 different sides Colour: White in colour with black printing 5.3 Contents of label: a. 9 6 Packaging data sheet 6.1 The packaging data sheet has to be settled between the supplier and Mexico as explained in the point 4 also before the first shipment. The data sheet has to be approved by Mexico. 6.2 The format can be downloaded on 7 Product certification sheet 7.1 The Product certification (see download has to be used for the first six shipments of a new product to Mexico. 7.2 The certification sheet can be requested temporarily in the case of occurred incidents.
