MATERIAL HANDLING AND INDUSTRY 4.0 Dr. Gábor Bohács Associate professor Dániel Gáspár Assistant lecturer DEPARTMENT OF MATERIAL HANDLING AND LOGISTIC SYSTEMS

Contents of the Presentation Introduction, fields of material handling Identified, actual problems Material handling evolution steps Setting into the wider context of logistic s future evolution Symbiotic interactions between material handling and Industry 4.0

Introduction Department of Lifting Machines and Material Handling Machines Department of Building Machines and Material Handling Machines Department of Building Machines, Material Handling Machines and Manufacturing Logistics Department of Material Handling and Logistic Systems

Material handling at a glance Material handling equipment (MHE) are crucial parts of today s manufacturing systems Plays an important role in enhancing productivity and flexibility of the entire system as well as effective utilization of resources. The cost of material handling constitutes15% to 70% of the total manufacturing cost of a product. Material handling systems integrate equipment and other technologies of manufacturing systems. There are six categories identified by Mirhosseyni and Webb, namely, industrial trucks, floor conveyors, overhead conveyors, automatic guided vehicles, cranes and manuals Source: The evolution and future of manufacturing: A review

Identified, actual problems Cost of new installations Lack of workforce in both material handling machines expert, manufacturer and operator area Rapid development from technological and information aspects

Material handling evolution steps Material handling machines were Handling problem solvers and accessorial machinery in the industry and logistics

Material handling evolution steps Material handling machines are Components of complex material flow systems

Material handling evolution steps Material handling machines will be Apps with special interfaces Source of the figure:vdi: Fortentwicklung des Referenzmodells für die Industrie 4.0 Komponente. _RAMI_4-0_Struktur_der_Verwaltungsschale_Internet.pdf

Setting into the wider context of logistic s future evolution Logistic networks Open supply chains Intelligent Track & Trace Internet of everything Supply chains are controlled by artificial intelligence Shared components of logistic infrastructure Artificial intelligence controlled environment Interfacing digital, human and machine components Rapid spreading of mobile devices Increase of device intelligence Novel art of required knowledge, education Integrated human and machine intelligence 2050 Market segmentation into strongly different customer groups Mass spreading of individual products Logistic resources Novel work assignments and work culture Spreading of software agents Logistic infrastructure Green and ressource saving logistic technologies Developed by the Workgroup for technical and informatical issues of the Hungarian Association of Logistics, Purchasing and Inventory Management (MLBKT) Significant increase of e-commerce Customer demands
