What is this course about? 1.1 Course description Logistics includes all those activities required to move products, services and information between members of a supply chain. Within today s global business environment supply chains and networks of supply chains span the globe seeking to effectively, efficiently, and sustainably deliver an amazingly diverse range of goods and services to customers. Managing global logistics has become a key role within successful organisations often providing vital strategic competitive advantage. This course aims to provide you with a comprehensive understanding of the mission, business processes, and strategies needed to achieve integrated global logistics management. 1.2 Course content introduction to logistics and supply chain management globalization and International Trade supply chain relationships and supply chain strategies transport/logistics in supply chains, transport security, simulation and SCM procurement and logistics service providers inventory management warehousing and materials handling logistics information flows and technology and financial management logistics risk, robustness, vulnerability and emerging supply chain designs sustainable logistics, supply chain systems and reverse logistics measuring and managing logistics performance service supply chains 2. Assessment Task 1: In-class test Goal: Demonstrate understanding of global logistics management concepts Product: The quiz may consist of true/false, multi-choice questions and/or discussion/essay questions. Your tutor will administer the quiz in your tutorial in week 5. Format: This is an individual assessment. Criteria demonstration of mastery of key logistics management concepts covered in the lecture topics ability to apply relevant concepts in addressing the questions ability to think critically about the question Generic skill assessed Skill assessment level Communication Collaboration Information literacy Assessment Task 2: Logistics Management Report Goal: This task is an opportunity to develop and demonstrate your knowledge, skills and ability to apply logistics management concepts by producing a report on Logistics Management. Product: Logistics Management Report Format: This is a group assessment. Your report should cover the following: identification of current issues and future trends of logistics management using different dimensions of global logistics management covered in the course (Hint: Use at least three of the various dimensions eg procurement/demand, mode of transportation, warehousing, supply chain relationships and relationships management with logistics service providers, logistics/supply chain designs, information flows and risk management you can substantiate your logic by using the relevant company example and at least 10 relevant academic references.)

4 Page 4 qualitative examination of the influence of various dimensions of logistics management (at least three dimensions that you have chosen for this report) on organisational performance / customer satisfaction presentation of your findings in the report in a clear/logical/professional manner using acceptable format Criteria You should submit your group assignment via SafeAssign on or before Wednesday 5.00pm (AEST) Week 12. Marks will be allocated using the marking guide which will be made available on Blackboard (please check your WORKBOOK on blackboard for marking criteria). The assessment criteria are: application of relevant logistics management concepts/frameworks and theories, qualitative assessment of the relationships between dimensions of logistics and organisational performance leading to creative and feasible conclusions, critical evaluation and logical development of arguments in presenting your analysis, error free writing with appropriate formatting, use of relevant credible sources and appropriate referencing style. Collaboration among group members (peer evaluation report see workbook) For marking consistency, a marks moderation meeting will be held with all markers. Generic skill assessed Skill assessment level Collaboration Problem solving Communication Assessment Task 3: End of Semester Exam Goal: This exam will allow you to demonstrate your understanding of the global logistics management concepts and applications covered in this course. Product: Exam Format: This is an individual assessment. A 120-minute end of semester exam will be held during the central exam period. Criteria The marks for each question will be indicated in your exam paper. For marking consistency, a marks moderation meeting will be held with all markers. The following criteria will be used for assessment: demonstration of good understanding of the key logistics management concepts covered in the course ability to apply relevant logistics management concepts in addressing the case issues/problems ability to think critically about the question and to convey this in the written answer Generic skill assessed Skill assessment level Problem solving Information Literacy

5 Page Additional assessment requirements Plagiarism In order to minimise incidents of plagiarism and collusion, this course may require that some of its assessment tasks, when submitted to Blackboard, are electronically checked through SafeAssign. This software allows for text comparisons to be made between your submitted assessment item and all other work that SafeAssign has access to. Eligibility for Supplementary Assessment Your eligibility for supplementary assessment in a course is dependent of the following conditions applying: a) The final mark is in the percentage range 47% to 49.4% b) The course is graded using the Standard Grading scale c) You have not failed an assessment task in the course due to academic misconduct 5.4 Submission penalties Late submission of assessment tasks will be penalised at the following maximum rate: 5% (of the assessment task s identified value) per day for the first two days from the date identified as the due date for the assessment task. 10% (of the assessment task s identified value) for the third day 20% (of the assessment task s identified value) for the fourth day and subsequent days up to and including seven days from the date identified as the due date for the assessment task. A result of zero is awarded for an assessment task submitted after seven days from the date identified as the due date for the assessment task. Weekdays and weekends are included in the calculation of days late. To request an extension you must contact your course coordinator to negotiate an outcome. 6.
