3 Outstanding Performance Advanced design with a high degree of stiffness The structural design of the machine tool is well planned. All essential components, such as bed, support, etc. are made of cast iron providing excellent dampening properties. This way high-precision performance at high speeds can be achieved whilst, at the same time, allowing for long service life of tooling. Drives & Guides All machining centers are equipped with high-quality precision linear guides and ball screws. Drive systems and controls are always integrated as single-source-technology supplied completely by either FANUC or SIEMENS. This ensures optimal set-up and full compatibility ranging from the NC programs to the axis-drive systems. Cooling System Coolant nozzles integrated on the spindle alternatively supply air or emulsion in sufficient quantity, whilst the high capacity cooling medium tank safeguards optimum cooling conditions, at all times. Coolant through spindle is also available as an option. A compressed air gun at the operator side is included with each unit. Tool Magazine The side-mounted tool magazine with dual-arm gripper facilitates fast set-up for the next tool and shorts so the required retooling times. This way tools are optimally protected, without any interference in the work area. Chip Removal Through an automated slate-band chain conveyor system chips and related emission of heat are safely transferred to the respective chip tank, including overload protection. Solid design telescopic covers for the guideways prevent accumulation of chips. 3

4 Spindles and Options Spindles There are several types of spindles available: An extremely robust belt-driven spindle for variable speeds of 8,000 rpm or 10,000 rpm. Alternatively there is a choice of particularly smooth running and precise inline-spindles with 12,000 rpm or even 15,000 rpm. Given their direct drive properties they more or less correspond to the characteristics of a motor spindle, at significantly lower maintenance costs. All spindles can be supplied with BT40 or SK40 interface connections. BT50 or SK50 adaptors have to be used for large scale machine applications, whereby the addition of a reducing gear for heavy-duty CNC machining applications is available as an option. 4- and 5-axes Solutions With the addition of a fourth or fifth axis the VMC units can be turned into highly flexible and versatile machining centers. By choosing a unit with a large table surface supplementary components for 3-axes machining can be fitted in addition to the rotary table. The option axis preparation allows for easy extension and the addition of further axes at a later stage. A rotary table can thus be easily added, at any time. A multitude of Options In addition to different types of spindles there is a multitude of further options available for the VMC series that virtually leave nothing to be desired. To ensure high repeatability the machines can be set up and rigged with direct measuring systems, as well as automated tool setter and automated touch probe systems. A coolant gun, Coolant through spindle with 20 bar, a climate control unit for the switch cabinet and numerous further options increase processing quality and allow for efficient and reliable manufacture of your components. In terms of software controls the units can be equipped with dialogue-programming support FANUC Manual Guide i or SIEMENS Shop Mill. 4
