PREFACE INTERESTING ACQUISITIONS Rovema VPI 260 Recently, DL Packaging was able to buy three Rovema VPI 260 machines. Two of these are Stabilo editions (for making QuadSeal bags, sealed at the corners). After thorough maintenance and an upgrade of the electronics to Siemens S7, these machines will soon be available for new users! I wish you plenty of personnel! You ve heard that old joke - knowing that personnel is often a company s greatest concern. When I decided to start my own company around 20 years ago (from home, with a second telephone and fax line and a desk in the bedroom), I couldn t have dreamed that I would some day run a company with 18 employees and sell more than 50 machines each year. But this team of experienced, motivated people is precisely the driving force, the engine behind DL Packaging. They make sure that our packaging machines are built and adapted perfectly, that they re ready and shipped on time, and that they get built and started up at the customer s premises. Check out OUR INVENTORY of Rovema machines here Our people have built our reputation. That makes selling the machines a lot easier. This newsletter is about the projects and the machines. And it s about people. Here s to your reading pleasure! Leo van der Vorm DL News Package #1 2

SHOP FLOOR NEWS DL Packaging is currently working on at least 17 projects. From a nut-packaging line for Egypt to a machine for deepfreeze dough bags for Poland. A few of the more compelling projects are highlighted briefly below. nut-packaging line for Egypt For a new factory in Egypt, a German multinational was looking for a top-quality machine at an acceptable price. After visiting DL Packaging, the Germans and the Egyptians were immediately convinced of the quality of the 14-head Ishida weighing machine with the good-as-new rebuilt Rovema bagmaker proposed for this project. 14-head Ishida weighing machine for Egypt machine for IQF dough bags for Poland Several years ago, this customer bought an Ishida multi head weigher from DL Packaging and was so satisfied with this that he recently ordered a new-value rebuilt Rovema from DL Packaging. In May, this machine will go to the customer, where it will package 450-gram bags of IQF dough products in polyethylene (PE) bags. one of the deep-freeze pasta products to be packaged on the Rovema upgrade of electronics on a machine in a monastery in the middle of France The monks at this monastery have a nearly 20-year old Rovena machine in operation, and its electronics were becoming unreliable. Many of the e-components are no longer available, so the monks chose to order an entire new Siemens controller for their machine, including auger filler, from DL Packaging. example of new Siemens controls and operation for a Rovema 3

HIGHLIGHT 4

In this first edition of DL News Package, we highlight a special packaging machine for you. The challenge was to package 14 kg of asphalt in leak-proof bags for an Austrian customer. This required some serious engineering and the result speaks for itself: a fully revised Rovema VPX 385 QS (QuadSeal), as high-value as new. This packaging machine is a success story in every way. A good reason to take a closer look at this powerhouse. The Austrians gave DL Packaging the assignment of delivering a bagmaker that could package semi-solid asphalt in well-sealed bags with QuadSeal (sealed corners). The asphalt is used to perform emergency repairs on road surfaces. So it s a type of instant asphalt that s used all over the world. An effective sealing system was also a precondition since the bags of asphalt are also transported by air, where differences in air pressure play a large role. Under no circumstances could the asphalt be permitted to leak out of the bags. For this reason, a Rovema VPX 385 machine from DL Packaging s large inventory was reconfigured and completely adapted to meet the customer s requirements, with a sealing system guaranteeing 100% certainty of no leaks, and extra-sturdy support for the bags. The Rovema VPX 385 QS has a production capacity of 3.5 tonnes per hour and makes the bags from the roll itself. The machine places a label of at least 150 mm x 240 mm on the bag automatically. The machine is built to do its work faultlessly for the next years. USPs for the Rovema VPX 385 QS from DL Packaging: 100% leak-proof sealing system; bags are made and filled on the machine (very labour-friendly compared with manually filling pre-formed bags); bag capacity of 14 kg; no manual work required - everything runs automatically; filling capacity of 3.5 tonnes per hour; extremely operator-friendly due to the Siemens S7-300 machine controls and touch-panel operation; bags from a roll are many times cheaper than pre-formed bags. 6 HIGHLIGHT PERSONNEL Building machines is about working with people That s why DL Packaging is pleased to introduce its employees in this first edition of News Package. So that you can put faces to the names at DL Packaging. José van Roosmalen (l) and Ellen van Zundert (r) run the secretariat. They coordinate telephone traffic and take care of all of the machine and parts shipments. They also handle some of the administration and all personnel matters. For the delivery of all parts and keeping parts in stock - for both the 750 machines that have been supplied and those currently being built - DL Packaging has a permanent warehouse employee: Hans Schenk (l), who is currently being broken in by Evert Steenhagen (r). Evert will head off for his well-earned retirement in July. A programmer, a draughtsman, three service technicians and eight shop mechanics who disassemble and re-assemble your packaging machines completely according to your wishes. We ll turn the spotlights on this production team in a later edition. Did you know...?...that DL Packaging has delivered over 750 machines since its start in 1995? And that those machines make and fill bags in 51 countries each day? 6

MARKET NEWS If you re looking for a new vertical formfill-seal machine in Western Europe, you can find at least 100 suppliers. A large number of German and Italian manufacturers, some English ones, a few Spanish and Polish ones... and even a few others. There are also some new-machine manufactures in the Netherlands. Many first-time buyers focus mainly on price, since they haven t yet experienced the importance of the supplier s product experience and service. Choosing the right machine and associated dosage is crucial. And that s just the beginning. After the machine has been delivered, you ll notice how important it is that the supplier has all parts in stock and their own service technicians who can solve your problems quickly. At DL Packaging, we regularly meet new customers who bought their first machines elsewhere and who aren t satisfied - because their machine doesn t do what was promised and/or because they don t get good service. In those cases, it sometimes takes extra effort to win them over due to the mistrust that has arisen. Fortunately, it s to our advantage that we have been able to get many differing and difficult products into bags throughout Europe, and that we can demonstrate this. So always choose a supplier that has experience with your product and with your foils, preferably a supplier that builds/rebuilds machines themselves, and that has its own service department. In the final analysis, this is always the most profitable solution! Leo van der Vorm 7

HIGHLIGHT TESTIMONIAL JACCO VAN GURP 8

DL Packaging guarantees high-quality vertical form-fill sealing machines. And who can say it better than the customers who buy the machines? In this first issue, Jacco van Gurp (General Manger of VGR Food in Dirksland, Netherlands) tells their story. DL Packaging delivers reliable service and quality. Six months ago, two vertical form-fill sealing machines with multi-head weighing equipment were put into operation at VGR. With a capacity of around 70 bags per minute per machine, and in weights ranging from grams, these machines package salad enhancers such as croutons, nuts and seeds for customers in the industrial, food service and retail sectors. When asked why VGR Food uses machines from DL Packaging, Jacco answered resolutely: I know Leo from previous employers, so I went to talk to him and we figured things out together. I already knew that they build high-quality machines with extremely skilled people there in Oosterhout. At the commissioning of the machines, DL Packaging technicians were on the spot to explain the operation, to configure the programs and to start up the machines. I haven t had any troubles with the machines. But if they do arise, then I m sure that they ll be here quickly, Jacco said, emphasising DL Packaging s excellent service. Got a packaging issue? Then go to DL Packaging. You ll be sure to get it resolved. 9

1 In the next edition For a project in Denmark, DL Packaging delivered a large Hassia-Redatron machine that packages powder into bags ranging from 1 kilo up to as much as 12 kilos. The powder is used as a raw material for animal feed in various European factories. The machine is special because, despite its large scale and capacity, it cost only half as much as a comparable new machine. The machine replaces 2 FTEs and has run faultlessly since the start-up in October Distributieweg 20, P.O. Box AE Oosterhout (NB) The Netherlands Contact DL Packaging B.V.
