Building a European e-freight Infrastructure for the Freight Transport Community Takis Katsoulakos takis@inlecom.com Yannis Zorgios yz@clmsuk.com Port of Valencia -25 Oct 2010

Objectives Provide a European e-freight Infrastructure for the Freight Transport Community (e-freight Platform) supporting the design, development, deployment and maintenance of e- Freight Solutions Validate the e-freight solutions in business cases and pilots involving representatives from stakeholders in surface transport including large and small businesses and authorities

Benefits e-freight solutions will help: 1. Transport users (shippers, freight forwarders, etc) to plan their transport requirements and to setup e-business networks adhering to co-modality principles for improved efficiency and end-to-end service quality 2. Transport service providers in all modes to provide information about their service offerings and exchange information electronically with all relevant actors through planning, executing and completing transport operations; 3. Transport infrastructure providers to facilitate the best possible use of the complete transport infrastructure and to provide relevant information services 4. Transport regulators to obtain in the simplest possible way the required information for monitoring compliance with applicable regulations, and to exchange information with other authorities for collaboration in security and environmental risk management 5. Transport support service providers to offer and integrate their services

Strategy for developing the e-freight e-freight Framework Overview

The e-freight Framework Strategy for developing the e-freight Framework Guiding Principle The e-freight Framework will provide reference models for freight transport representing both current best practices and future scenarios for improved operations based on opportunities arising from advances in interoperable ICT solutions. The e-freight Framework will be constructed so that the interfaces between all relevant EU initiatives are well defined, transparent and integration becomes feasible; The highest priority will be given to standardisation of the e-freight Framework in collaboration with GS1, CEN, UN/CEFACT, UBL/OASIS The e-freight Framework (both processes and associated information packages ) will be extensively validated in Business Cases involving both businesses and administrations.

Design Philosophy e-freight will facilitate more efficient integration of different stakeholders that co-operate according to pre-existing agreements e-freight will allow a dynamic logistics network of companies (who may not worked together before-including authorities) to coordinate their operations electronically with loose connections
