Institut für angewandte Systemtechnik Bremen GmbH Approach for a scalable Cloud-Based platform for the Internet of Things Case study on mobile tracking of Assets

Facts about ATB Name: Institut für angewandte Systemtechnik Bremen GmbH Address: Wiener Straße Bremen Germany Company 1991 establishing Year: Strategic Business Areas: Software Systems Technology Systems Analysis & Design Knowledge Management Big Data Analytics Total number of employees: ~20 full-time and 10 part-time

Introduction Logistics is a domain that requires new technologies to fulfil customers / consumers needs transparency along the supply chain shipment tracking in real-time integrity control for sensitive goods (e.g. food, pharma) safety of shipments What IoT can do for logistics in future?

IoT and Industry 4.0 IoT Internet of Things network of internet-connected objects able to collect and exchange data using embedded sensors More consumer driven concepts Industry 4.0 Internet of Things of Industry 4 th industrial revolution; CPS; IoT; Smart Factory; Smart Product; Cloud; Big Data; More industrial driven concepts

Cisco s Prevision 2008 more connected devices than humans on earth 2020 more than 50 billion connected devices

IoT based Tracking of Assets What is asset tracking? Asset tracking refers to the method of tracking physical assets, either by scanning barcode labels attached to the assets or by using tags using GPS or RFID which broadcast their location. (Wikipedia) Why tracking assets? In logistics, especially for temperature-controlled goods, tracking and tracing is of high importance Better forecasting / Planning Intelligent production / manufacturing Mass customization IoT based Asset Tracking Providing information in real-time Online Condition Monitoring

Case Study Container Tracking 4.0 Transparency is key when it comes to the transportation of valuable goods (e.g. food or pharmaceuticals). Objectives Online access to location and condition of goods Focused around temperature sensitive goods Goal is transparency by tracking of Container door (door open/close events) Temperature of the container (indoor, outdoor) Humidity within the container Container Vibrations/Shocks Theft attempts
