6 Page 6 The Rack Installation Kit The Rack Installation Kit The Rack Installation Kit includes the parts listed below. The kit provides sufficient parts for the installation of two cabinets into a rack. Note that Avaya cannot guarantee that these parts are suitable for all other non-avaya supplied rack designs. Fan Tray Assembly: (x 1) Locates in the channel slots as indicated by the rack diagrams (see "The Four Cabinet INDeX Rack" on page 4 and "The Five Cabinet INDeX Rack" on page 5). Includes an integral mains lead. Fan Tray Panels: (x 2) One attaches to the front of the Fan Tray to provide rack fixing for that unit. The other is used to blank remaining slots between cabinets. Cabinet Rack Mounting Brackets: (RH x 2/LH x 2) Attach to the sides of the cabinets to provide rack fixing. M3 x 6 Pan Head Screws: (x 11) Used to attach the Cabinet Rack Mounting Brackets to the Cabinets. Also used to attach the Fan Tray Panel to the Fan Tray. Support Channels: (x 4) Provide position support for two cabinets and slots for the Fan Trays. For the 1st cabinet (the Control Unit), discard one of the channels and replace it with the CU Support Channel (see below). CU Support Channel: (x1) For the first cabinet only, use as the support channel for under the cabinet's serial/moh ports. M6 x 12 Socketed Screws plus Whizz Nuts: (x 16) Used to attach the Support Channels to the rack. Straight Connector Mains Leads: (x 2) Replace the Right-Angle Connector mains leads supplied with the cabinets. 7 Rack Mounted Installation Installing a Rack System Page 7 Installing a Rack System WARNING: At all times whilst working on the rack, ensure that the adjustable feet are lowered to reduce the risk of rack movement or toppling. 1. Preparing the Rack All rack installations must be fixed to the permanent building structure. For this purpose, the INDeX rack supplied by Avaya includes two wall brackets. You must provide suitable 6mm wall fixings for use with these brackets. 1. Place the rack in its intended position. 2. Attach the adjustable feet and adaptors supplied with the rack into the threaded holes in four corners of the base. 3. Remove the rear oval plastic covers and screws from the top panel. 4. Attach the wall brackets supplied with the rack using M6 x 12 Socket Head Screws - hand tighten only to avoid distortion (the brackets provide a choice of four fixing holes). 5. Mark the bracket hole positions on the wall. 6. Drill and prepare the rack wall fixings as required by the type of wall structure. This must be a solid wall and not a plasterboard or any other form of partition wall. 2. Preparing the Cabinets Use the following steps to prepare the cabinets for use in the rack. Note that cabinets must be installed with their base grille and front cover. 1. For each cabinet, you require: One Left-hand and one Right-hand mounting bracket. Four M3 x 6 Pan Head Screws. 2. Attach the mounting brackets to the cabinet. Do not fully tighten the screws until the cabinet is in place in the rack. This ensures that the cabinets and not the brackets alone rest on the support channels. (Note: On some racks it may be necessary to remove the brackets until the cabinet is in the rack and then attach them.) 3. On the expansion cabinets, ensure that you remove all parts associated with the serial/moh ports, connector cover plate and rivets. 3. Preparing the Fan Trays Fan Trays are required in the positions indicated by the rack diagrams (see "The Four Cabinet INDeX Rack" on page 4 and "The Five Cabinet INDeX Rack" on page 5). Important: Ensure that the fan trays are inserted correctly orientated. Facing the front of the rack, the Fan Tray neon should be on the left. Facing the rear of the rack the Fan Tray power supply socket should be on the left. 1. Attach a Fan Tray Panel to each Fan Tray using three M3 x 6 Pan Head Screws. 38PJC00001SBA - Issue 8 (09/01/2002) INDeX - Rack Installation Notes

8 Page 8 Installing a Rack System 4. Installing the Cabinets 1. Position the rack as near as possible to its final position but allow for rear and side access during installation. 2. Remove the rack panels. Note that each panel is attached to the rack frame with a short earth lead. You must reconnect these leads after installation. 3. Attach the support channels at the set intervals (see page 10) using the socketed M6 screws and whizz nuts. All channels have ident dimples and should be attached with these facing downwards. To provide for vertical adjustment, do not fully tighten the nuts at this stage. Under the Control Cabinets serial ports use the CU Support Channel rather than a Standard support channel. 4. Starting from the bottom up, slide the Cabinets into place and secure them using the M6 Cup Washer Screws. The Control Cabinet must go in the lowest position with the support channels adjusted to their lowest possible position. On some racks, due to width restrictions, the Cabinet Mounting Brackets may need to be removed and then reattached once the cabinet is in the rack. 5. Install the Cabinet PSU's and cassettes as per normal installation. Ensure that you use all P-clip connections and follow the requirements for EMC installation. Route all cassette cables out of the rack through the brush strip aperture. The cabinets still require their front covers and base grille plate to be fitted. 6. Slide the Fan trays into the Support Channel slots and secure with M6 Cup Washer Screws. The Fan Trays go into the Support Channel slots as indicated by the rack diagrams (see "The Four Cabinet INDeX Rack" on page 4 and "The Five Cabinet INDeX Rack" on page 5). Ensure that the fan tray neon is on the left as you face the rack. Blank off any empty Support Channels with a Fan Tray Panel. 7. Once all cabinets and fan trays are secured in place, check and tighten all screws and nuts securing support channels and mounting brackets. 8. Connect the Cabinet PSU and Fan Tray mains leads to the Mains Distribution Block(s). Use one block for the lower four cabinets and lower two fan trays. Use the remaining block for any other cabinet and fan tray. 9. Replace the rack panels, ensuring that you reconnect the earthing leads in the process. 10. If using a non-avaya supplied rack, affix the Warning Label from the Rack Installation Kit to the rack base just inside the door). 11. Position the rack and ensure that the adjustable feet are lowered. 12. Secure the rack to the building structure. INDeX - Rack Installation Notes 38PJC00001SBA - Issue 8 (09/01/2002)
