2 Welcome to the Port of Hargshamn Hargs Hamn AB the Port of Hargshamn is a bulk port that handles many different types of goods and is the closest general port for bulk traffic north of Stockholm. The port is a logistics hub, linking together marine, road and rail transports. The serviceoriented team that works at the port offers loading and unloading every day, all day, the whole year. The team at the Port of Hargshamn are used to working with large goods volumes. The Port of Hargshamn specialises in minerals such as ores and solid fuels, primarily biofuels. On the bulk side, we have customers from a range of industries, such as energy, grain, stone cladding and soil improvement. The Port of Hargshamn also transports scrap metal, including that from recycling centres, to be fragmented and sorted in Germany. In 2012, transports of iron ore started from the recommissioned Dannemora Mine. The port s commitments include receiving railway wagons and the storage and shipping of around 1.5 million tonnes of ore per year. The History of the Port of Hargshamn The Port of Hargshamn s history stretches back to the 1600s, when the port was originally used as a departure point for bar iron from Hargs Bruk AB and for ore from the mines in Dannemora. Ore exports continued until the mine closed in 1992, before being reopened in

3 The Port of Hargshamn is expanding The Port of Hargshamn is currently expanding and is establishing new areas for quays, storage and industry. The port has plenty of available land about 55 hectares and lots of space for development. A new ship loader was bought in 2014, with a loading capacity of up to 2000 tonnes per hour and a reach for vessels up to 40,000 tonnes. Ro-ro port There was extensive ro-ro traffic between 1989 and 1997, with both trucks and rail wagons, amounting to more than one million tonnes annually. The existing ferry dock provides the opportunity to re-establish regular traffic. Increased storage capacity The Port of Hargshamn also provides warehousing, with seasonal and short-term storage, indoors and outdoors. We have the largest warehousing facilities for wood pellets in Sweden we can store up to 75,000 tonnes. We are also planning to build more warehouses. Our future Our hope is that deepening the shipping lane will attract larger vessels and thus increase our market. We have therefore reserved areas of land for the continuing expansion of the port, with more quays and increased storage capacity. We are also planning to offer land for industrial purposes linked to port activities and marine transportation. In addition to this, we are working towards environmental certification. How we see the future of the Port of Hargshamn Deepening of the shipping lane from 8.5 metres (9.5 metres with exemptions) to 11 metres draught. Expansion of an additional quay for large vessels. Continued expansion of warehousing and storage areas. Investment in storm water cleaning system, to protect the environment. Investment in conveyor belts from the quay for loading/unloading in/out straight from the warehouse/storage area for more efficient and environmentally-friendly handling of wood pellets and woodchips. Possible restart of scheduled traffic with ro-ro/container vessels. Soon to be completed improvements to road 288, for safer and more environmentallyfriendly transports. Continued improvements to the railway Örbyhus Dannemora Port of Hargshamn. 0

6 The Port of Hargshamn s Business Areas Solid fuel Solid fuels such as woodchips, bark, pellets, fuel wood, peat, waste, etc., are important products for the Port of Hargshamn, with customers such as Vattenfall, Norrenergi, Fortum and Naturkraft. There are several major cogeneration plants in the region. A number of new heating plants using waste as fuel are planned or under construction in our geographic area. Throughout the 2000s, the use of biofuels has exceeded targets and forecasts. Future areas of particular growth will be woodchips, bark and pellet. The area north of Stockholm has three waste-fuelled heating plants that each incinerate more than 100,000 tonnes annually. More of the same size are planned. In Sweden as a whole, waste incineration is responsible for around 15% of district heating production. Existing and planned waste-fuelled heating plants in Uppland and the EU s Landfill Directive (which encourages countries that are not investing in, or cannot use, energy from waste, to export their waste) create good opportunities for the Port of Hargshamn to become an important import port for waste for fuel. Ore In full operation, Dannemora will ship more than 1.5 million tonnes of ore annually via the Port of Hargshamn. There is additional potential in the form of more mines that are at various stages of the exploitation concession process. These are well situated geographically for the Port of Hargshamn. Sawn timber and pulpwood The local area is extensively forested and the Port of Hargshamn has established customer relations with several large forestry companies. The port has long experience of loading timber trains. Other dry bulk Scrap metal exports may increase by a further 30,000 50,000 tonnes/year, above the current approximately 40,000 tonnes/year, primarily in fragmented scrap. There is a declining trend in other solid fuels (coal, peat, etc.), where current volumes of about 100,000 tonnes/year may be halved. Ash from cogeneration/heating plants is a potential new product, from existing customer relations. Volumes of 30,000 50,000 tonnes/year. Construction materials, e.g. sheet piling, girders, etc. House modules. 0
