4 MANUFACTURING & OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE MANUFACTURING & OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE STREAMLINING OPERATIONS ( LEAN THINKING ) Introduce Key Performance Indicators (KPI) to measure and track waste reduction and operational performance Eliminate Waste - 5S methodology for organizing and managing the workspace Kaizen Continuous improvements of activities and processes PROCESS QUALITY ASSURANCE Statistical Process Control and monitoring of KPI measurements Detect root causes and critical operations analysis PRODUCTION PLANNING AND CONTROL Design planning systems which considers: Production process management and product complexity ERP capability and effectiveness Software vs. manual planning Planning horizon Supply chain integration Bottleneck identification and management Techniques used to ensure effective and full integration of the production plan into the daily shop floor activities: Work-In-Progress control System status visibility Key performance indicators (KPI) follow up Empowerment, decisions making procedures Layout Material storage devices Productivity Improvement and Work Standards Mainly involves the use of time and motion study to optimise work methods to facilitate cost reduction and improved efficiency. Solutions might lead to labour reduction, mechanisation, ergonomic improvements, improved quality, and process reliability. SIMULATION Allows for what if analysis when designing a future state of a particular system, or to observe how the system would act by changing certain management rules. RIC has built up simulation experience over 15 years using the platforms Gensym's G2 and Rockwells' ARENA P a g e 4

5 WARHOUSE LOGISTICS & OPERATIONS WAREHOUSE LOGISTICS & OPERATIONS SITE CAPACITY PLANNING / TECHNICAL AND LOGISTICAL MASTER-PLANS (TLMP) Develop a capacity & space plan for a production and/or distribution site and includes but is not limited to: Production & Distribution facilities Utilities Site Logistics (gate houses, personnel access etc.) Offices and amenities And any other specific requirements that arise The TMP has two outputs per development phase: A capacity model A site layout per development phase showing new and upgraded facilities INTERNAL WAREHOUSE DESIGN WHICH INCLUDES THE DESIGN OF: Bulk storage of product Picking and sorting operations Dispatch and receiving operations Amenities Material handling Warehouse dimensions Operational procedures Column positions PRODUCT PLACEMENT OPTIMISATION WIPLE (Warehouse Internal Product Location Engine) Optimises product location in order to minimise total forklift travel, taking the following into account: Limit certain SKUs to certain warehouse locations i.e. racking or shelving Includes picking/sorting operations Customer site specific requirements. STOCK OPTIMISATION Factors included in the model: Production & stockholding cost Variation in supply and demand Service order level Strategic Stock Requirements Various levels of service from high level calculations to full software packages are available Warehouse Management Systems Implementation Develop the User Requirement Specification (URS) for the WMS based on best operating practices Evaluate alternative WMS available and specify the most suitable Manage the implementation P a g e 5

6 SUPPLY CHAIN SOLUTIONS SUPPLY CHAIN SOLUTIONS GRID OPTIMIZATION (GOM): Used as the strategic decision -making tool to optimise whole network performance. GOM solutions are optimised according to: Capacity and placement of depots as well as production facilities Strategic production plan for each facility Primary and secondary distribution requirements Product mix & stock policy The distribution network can be optimised using different objective functions, e.g. Minimise total cost or stock, maximise NPV, profit or throughput DISTRIBUTION TACTICAL DEPLOYMENT (PGOM): Create production and distribution plans across a network (grid) of facilities in order to comply with user-defined stock strategies. Configured to seamlessly integrate with ERP systems. The engine currently optimises across: The plant, distribution centre and customer tiers. It can be readily scaled up or down to suit other configurations and requirements. The model is time-based; it will optimize stock levels for different periods of the year, thus supporting optimal production, storage, shipping and distrib ution operations. PGOM can be applied regionally, nationally or internationally. DISTRIBUTION SCHEDULING & ROUTING TOOL RIC will project manage the implementation of the complete transport management system for optimizing route planning. The system includes: Primary and secondary distribution, direct loads and stock transfers, record keeping management, invoicing and purchasing. Complete execution-management for a transport environment The system is fully map -based with automatic time and distance calculation as well as GPS based route auditing. It includes internet -based access for entering loads, assigning hauliers, dispatching and receiving loads and track and trace for all parties FLEET OPTIMISATION With the use of fleet management tools, a fleet can be reduced to provide sufficient capacity for the entire distribution grid whilst not neglecting the demands of the customer. Questions around outsourcing vehicles can be answered in an informed manner in order to reduce costs and build in sufficient flexibility to maintain adequate capacity in even highly seasonal markets. KPI INSTALLATION The services offered include: Standardised formulation of KPIs The manner in which they are captured Frequency of reporting Medium of reporting KPIs need to align with the corporate vision and objectives and can be installed in production, distribution, administrative or any other operational settings. 7 DESIGN & PROJECT ENGINEERING DESIGN & PROJECT ENGINEERING This service focuses on the engineering, specification and equipment end of our Industrial Engineering solutions. Whilst not limited only to this field, RIC has particularly extensive experience with international food and beverage operations, including brewing, dairy, soft drinks and packaging. We also cover general materials handling and equipment, purpose built and specialist equipment, and tailor-made machines and systems. BREWERY AND FOOD ENGINEERING: Design reviews Design optimisation Equipment specification and design General and specific technical specifications PROJECT PLANNING: Capital project planning to micro detail level (esp. for liquid food industry) Work breakdown structures Resource allocation Planning as a project management tool Project progress monitoring MECHANICAL DESIGN: Equipment and layout design and specification Quality assurance of manufactured stainless steel vessels and equipment PROJECT TROUBLE-SHOOTING: Emergency technical and management assistance for "problem" projects Commissioning and Performance testing of packaging equipment PROJECT ADMINISTRATION & DESIGN SERVICES Design Conceptual Design report Industrial Engineering Civil/steel/structural Infrastructure Electrical Engineering Budget Compilation Project Plan Project Execution Project Management Services Project Engineer Construction Management Q.A. Control Expediting Cost Engineering/control P a g e 7

8 INFORMATION ENGINEERING INFORMATION ENGINEERING SOFTWARE SOLUTIONS Develop and custom-fit software solutions for our Clients. Typical solutions have been GOM: a grid optimizing tool applied across a number of scenarios to optimize identified resources using customized objective functions PGOM: a production grid optimisation tool designed to create production plans whilst complying with user-defined stock strategies and designed to integrate with ERP systems Dashboards & KPI-measurement: tracking the real-time performance of operations where these might be critical to operational efficiencies Short Interval Control & Statistical Process Control: providing real-time feedback to operations integrating large displays, dashboards and external data-capture devices Training Tools: assisting in educating personnel either in the use of systems or to work to certain principles Integration: middleware that will ensure data transfer typically from ERP system to third party applications or between devices such as handhelds and customised applications.
