A very good example for healthy growth is ASAŞ Alüminyum San. ve Tic. A.Ş., which in 2006 adopted an investment package worth millions. Investments that have resulted in the probably largest highbay warehouse of its kind in Turkey. Extensive modernization and performance increases in its powder-coating plants, the installation of the largest anodization plant in the world, the doubling of casting capacities and greater extrusion performances were the ambitious targets. Which made it necessary to almost double the roofed area which in turn made it quickly apparent that sophisticated warehousing logistics would be necessary. And its location in a region that is very prone to earthquakes also gave rise to serious concerns. The project team at ASAŞ found the perfect partner in fehr Lagerlogistik. fehr quickly became aware of the challenges it faced following its initial trips to the site in Akyazi. It was necessary to harmonize the entire flow of materials because focusing solely on storage facilities would not deliver the desired results. Where would the goods flow together? What performances should the system deliver? The experts analysed the situation in intensive talks. A buffer storage location possessing at least 3500 storage positions would be required for the desired production performance. The dispatch department itself would require very high order-picking capacities in excess of 40 items per hour to meet the demands of a warehouse of the size required. Specifications that couldn t be realized with conventional processes. fehr honeycomb delivered the solution. The technically sophisticated high-bay warehousing system is able to handle both customer containers and aluminium profiles

4 High-speed distribution trolley, which delivers articles to three goods-dispatch stations. Goods are quickly available with the help of direct access to 24 buffer positions located in the shelving. Three goods-receipt stations linked directly to the fully automated packing line and three goods-dispatch stations on the shipping side ensure that material flows run smoothly. To this end, fehr realized a special distribution trolley with telescopic table and high-performance grippers. The system today is able to process eight trucks per shift. And thanks to the overall view of goods dispatch, the loading ramp has been placed in an ideal position. The goods-dispatch performance has been increased by almost 300 -% in an area of only 2500 m 2. Additional benefits are the reduction of workloads on the workforce and the highly flexible linking of the production processes to the warehouse. ASAŞ has thus readied itself just in time for the recovery of the market to take the lead on Turkey s aluminium sector.
